South Georgia is an amazing place, although the beach where this image was taken, Salisbury Plain, is out of this world!!! / / The image was taken from a hill and is of king penguins and their chicks. There are approximately 250 000 penguins at this breading colony! It’s amazing how they find each other! The sound as you come over the hill is tremendous, not to mention the smell!! / / The chicks are so inquisitive and come right up to you. This was taken of the rare yellow eyed penguin, with its wings outstretched, on the Yellow Eyed Penguin Conservation Reserve. It is on the Otago Peninsula, New Zealand. It was taken in the wild with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera. I was so fortunate to sell another here on redbubble in the same week. I sold a small mounted print with a black border and artist’s details, to a complete stranger (in the USA?). Many thanks so much. It was such a pleasant surprise.

Mr and Mrs King Penguins (aptenodytes patagonicus) ... or maybe they’re just good friends. These two belong to the only gang of King Penguins in England, at Birdland. Canon EOS 5D MkII with Canon EF 70-200mm L IS f/4 (incidentally I dropped that lens from around one metre onto concrete and it is still working fine! Kudos to Canon and what a clumsy marmot I am…..........)
