A penguin and his shadow. update: This lone penguin had just returned from a swim (hence the beads of water on his chest and tummy) Boulders Beach, South Africa. Cheers.
this gang of Adelie penguins gave me a great opportunity for quite a series of entertaining photographs as they zoomed busily about their icy playground. This photo has become a symbol of connection and friendship among my own personal group of nearest and dearest friends.
WILD & FREE / / South Georgia is one amazing island that you all must try to get to, if you don’t mind four days in rough seas on a boat that is!!! But it is truly worth it…. This image was taken at a place called “Salisbury Plain”, where there are approximately 250 000 penguins! The sound as you come over the hill is tremendous, not to mention the smell!! Nearly forgot to say that they are king penguins. / / (South Georgia – on an Antarctic trip) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

I have been selected to join the Australian THEBIPOLAREXPEDITION and to ski to the South Pole in November 2009. THEBIPOLAREXPEDITION a not-for-profit initiative is aimed at building a new awareness about the issues facing people with Bipolar Disorder and to raise funds to give grants for vital research into the causes and more effective diagnosis. We have partnered with the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund and the Black Dog Institute, and have arranged for Network Ten to be a media sponsor. The Bipolar Expedition is an exciting adventure aimed at raising awareness and money for research into Bipolar Affective Disorder. The Bipolar Expedition involves two treks – one to the South Pole in November 2008 and one to the North Pole in April 2009. Video footage from both will be made into a documentary about Bipolar Expedition (and fundraising activities during the lead up to the treks) . I am hoping to raise money for the project through a number of activities including the sale of this T shirt. http://web.me.com/davidcregan/Bipolar/WELCOME.html
Adelie Penguins take the plunge, Ross Sea, Antarctica. More Antarctic images here
Everything is long on a giraffe; the neck, the legs…..and the tongue. Paul Jackson’s elegant creature’s neck leaving and coming back into frame in this painting emphasizes what’s not there as well as the artist’s creative vision. The watercolor is one of a series featuring wildlife.
WILD & FREE / / While one Gentoo Penguin Chick looks up to mum for some food, the other has a rest on the ground. / / (Antarctic Peninsula) / / Melting sea ice and overfishing have triggered a dangerously rapid decline in penguin populations on the Antarctic peninsula – a direct result of global warming, warns a new report from the WWF. / / The gentoo, chinstrap and adélie – along with the emperor, the largest penguin species in the world – are now struggling to survive as melting sea ice reduces vital food sources, such as krill. / / Gentoos are now listed as nearly endangered on the IUCN Red List. / Read about it yourself here / / >< / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

Dare to wear red in a black and white world. Although the Louisville Cardinals is the home town college basketball team in Louisville, Kentucky USA, people are so rabid insane about University of Kentucky (located in Lexington Kentucky USA) that anyone wearing the Cardinal red colors (in stead of Wildcat blue) always get a second look. They say that in Kentucky, University of Kentucky Wildcats isn’t just about basketball, it’s a religion. / MCN:C27-LA6O-1752 SPECIAL EDITION PRINTS CLICK HERE The red penguins along the building are a marketing tactic for the art gallery housed in the building. © 2008 All Rights Reserved

Ok, so the title to this one is a little bit misleading. This firey sunset was captured from within a penguin rookery in between Burnie and Ulverstone. Fairy penguins are, after all, nocturnal… so this sunset, is their sunrise... Imagine being a cute little fluffy baby penguin and having this greet you at the beginning of your day!!! I could do stupid o’clock if I were a penguin ;)
