Photograph. Pendle Witch Country, in the Lancashire Pennines, is an area lying between (but also including) the north western edge of Bronte Country and the Ribble Valley, to the north and north east of which are Bowland, and the south western Yorkshire Dales respectively. The area is dominated by the dark brooding mass of Pendle Hill and made famous (nay infamous) for its grim and fiendish association with the “Witches of Pendle”… Places in and around Pendle Witch Country: Downham, this photo taken from the churchyard where some original Pendle Witches are buried.

Pendle, old Pendle, thou standest alone. / Twixt Burnley and Clitheroe, Whalley and Colne, / Where Hodder and Ribble’s fair waters do meet / With Barley and Downham content at thy feet. Pendle, old Pendle, majestic, sublime / Thy praises shall ring till the end of all time / Thy beauty eternal, thy banner unfurled, / Th’art dearest and grandest old hill in the world When witches fly out on a dark rainy night, / We’ll not tell a soul, and we’ll bar the door tight, / We’ll sit near to t’ fire, and keep ourselves warm / Until once again we can walk on thy arm. Pendle, old Pendle, by moorland and fell / In glory and loveliness, ever to dwell / On life’s faithful journey, where e’er I may be, / I’ll pause in my labours, and oft think of thee. Milton Allen

Taken with a Canon 400D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F5.6, 8 second exposure, ISO 100. I have just been moving a couple of shots around, this is one of the first I uploaded to rb several months ago! Panopticons (2003-2008) was a unique and ambitious arts and regeneration project at the heart of the East Lancashire Regional Park initiative, led by the Lancashire Economic Partnership. The project was set up to erect a series of 21st-century landmarks, or Panopticons, across East Lancashire as symbols of the renaissance of the area. Four of these iconic structures are now in place in Blackburn, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale. Panopticons
Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 17-70 lens at 17mm, F11, shutter speed 1/30 second, ISO100, tweaked in Photoshop I went for a drive in the countryside near where I use to live, this shot was taken half way up Pendle Hill in the wonderful Ribble Valley. Pendle Hill is located in the north-east of Lancashire, England, near the towns of Burnley, Nelson, Colne, Clitheroe and Padiham. Its summit is 557 metres (1,827 ft) above mean sea level. It gives its name to the Borough of Pendle. It is an isolated hill, separated from the Pennines to the east and the Forest of Bowland to the northwest. It lies to the southwest of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is a detached part of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Please view large!

Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F11, shutter speed 1/400 second ISO400 tweaked in Photoshop Today we went for a walk in the wonderful Ribble Valley. The walk started in a small village called Barley, we then went around a couple of reservoirs, during the walk we had stunning views of Pendle Hill (557 metres, 1827 feet) which can been seen in the shot in the distance. As you can see this is a typical English summers day overcast and ready to rain at short notice!!! ;-) Please view large
