Ikebukuro, Tokyo. The morning rush across the street from the train station and metro. Everyone jostling for space. I think it shows how hectic life can be in an Asian metropolis. / Today was my first try at using long exposures, and I felt that this was the best of the bunch from today. Any constructive criticism is welcome. I took this close-by to my home. !

The Shark Bay Sunset Pelican Parade happens each evening, as the pelicans pack cruises close to the shoreline of Monkey Mia. Their dusk swim coincides with the return of the fishermen, who then clean their days catch on the beach. The pelicans approach in the hope of receiving a tidbit. Some see them as nuisances, but they are forever graceful and comical – and not shy when it comes to trying to snatch some fish! Taken at sunset in Monkey Mia, Shark Bay, Western Australia. Taken with a Canon 5D, 100-400mm L Series Lens @ 130mm, f5.6, 1/125th sec, ISO 1600, handheld. As is – the vignetting is natural, caused by the light subsiding around the bright sun. Featured in Waterfowl Group, Feb 2009, Australian Travel Photography Group & Animal Kingdom Group, May 2009. Featured in Pelicans Group, Nov 2009. Winner of Sunsets over Western Australia Challenge in the Western Australia Group, April 2009.

While on a fishing trip in Florida this pelican followed our boat the whole way. We would toss fish in the air and he would catch every single one.
Coastal Mantra Series- Flying Meditation has been nominated for the prestigious Pay it Forward Group by Kellie Cranmer of Kcranmer Art Kellies quote to the group in submitting this image was: ”I chose this image because of the simple beauty it brings. Sometimes you can get the best impact by a bird flying…as nature would intend it to do…and Lina captured it so beautifully!! Also…Lina is one amazing soul. This has to be one of my favorite shots I have taken to date, as I was shooting Fiery Skies I noticed a pelican in the distance incomming, I raced back to this palm I had in the shots earlier, as I knew the fisherman to the left of frame would get the pelicans attention… Paid off, one of the frames used in this shot was a cool timing pelican landing :) I carefully pasted out the other captures of this pelican in the other frames, so the one was clear in the HDR. I was almost going to paste in the whole landing sequence, as I pumped up the ISO to get the camera shooting at max fps. I hope you enjoy this shot, was real fun making it, and shooting it! Noosa River, Noosaville, Queensland, Australia. Canon 50D, 10mm, 20% desaturate, as the raw was just too orange… Available Large, and best viewed Large..

/ After many weeks of chasing pelicans out on our local lake and foreshore, I was amazed at how easily they could be shot after all down “at the supermarket”. Yes, this is indeed a zoo shot, and it was pelicans galore the day I visited with some wonderful Bubblers- it was just too easy to walk around and shoot away. I was and remain very pleased with the shots, though I must admit the fire for me with birds is in the flight, and in the chase. What I was amazed to learn when I got the shots up on the small screen at home, was just how sensuous this amazing bird could be. I had often seen the funny side, but now I was seeing them differently. / / / . / . / . / . / . / Nikon D70s / Nikon 70-300mm lens / f stop f/5 / exp 1/400th sec / focal length 220mm / Picasa editting to enhance contrast. / . / . / . / . / I owe my little “music lesson” to Larry Butterworrth / whose super-cool work is so worth a visit, and who patiently led me to water and this link where you directions to embedding a video here. Had a blast this afternoon, a bunch of small cell electrical storms passed over, and there was plenty of opertunity to capture the fine displays Mother Nature put on. Lake Donella being one of my favorite places to shoot for wildlife, I thought I would try add them in too. This is only a 10 second exposure, the light was not pitch black yet, and the back lit sky was nice to add a bit of light to the scene. After this shot, the small fish in the shallows all went crazy, and I think it lightly zapped me, weird sensation. Lake Donella, Noosaville, Queensland, Australia. Canon 5D Mk II, 35mm. I do have two more shots from my day at the zoo with a few of my dear RB friends, previously unreleased, and shown below.
