The Blue Peafowl or Indian Peafowl is one of the species of bird in the genus Pavo of the Phasianidae family known as peafowl. The Indian Peafowl is a resident breeder in the Indian subcontinent and is the national bird of India. The species is found in dry semi-desert grasslands, scrub and deciduous forests. It forages and nests on the ground but roosts on top of trees. It eats mainly seeds, but also some insects, fruits and reptiles. According to Greek mythology, the “eyes” on the tail of a peacock were placed there by Hera to commemorate her faithful watchman, Argus who had a hundred eyes. Females are about 86 cm (34 in) long and weigh about 3.4 kg (7.4 lbs), while males average at about 2.12 m (7.3 ft) in full breeding plumage (107 cm/42 in when not) and weigh about 5 kg (11 lbs). The male is called a peacock, the female a peahen.

Peacocks are large, colorful pheasants (typically blue and green) known for their iridescent tails. These tail feathers, or coverts, spread out in a distinctive train that is more than 60 percent of the bird’s total body length and boast colorful “eye” markings of blue, gold, red, and other hues. The large train is used in mating rituals and courtship displays. It can be arched into a magnificent fan that reaches across the bird’s back and touches the ground on either side. Females are believed to choose their mates according to the size, color, and quality of these outrageous feather trains. Peafowl are omnivorous and eat plant parts, flower petals, seed heads, insects and other arthropods, reptiles, and amphibians.

On my day off this week the weather was beautiful, like spring, so I spend most of the day at a local petting zoo. I have never been to a zoo without spending the majority of the time trying to keep up with my kid, since I was a kid…LOL It was a nice peaceful day. Thanks for Looking, Kim
A Peacock strolls through the woods
Actually this one is my rather unsuccessful attempt to capture the peacock in his full glory since his spinning lasted for much shorter period of time than my aperture was set. Still, I hope that you may like my attempt to save this shot :)
Peafowl can refer to the two species of bird in the genus Pavo of the pheasant family, Phasianidae. The African Congo Peafowl is placed in its own genus Afropavo and is not dealt with here. Peafowl are best known for the male’s extravagant tail, which it displays as part of courtship. The male is called a peacock, the female a peahen, though it is common to hear the female also referred to as a peacock or female peacock. The female peafowl is brown or toned grey and brown.

Hmm, Wikipedia insists on calling it a Peafowl.
