Reiki means “Universal Energy” and I thought this sculpture depicted just that. Reiki is a Japanese form of complementary or alternative medicine, developed (or rediscovered) during the latter half of the 19th century. I focused and shot this sculpture at an antique store in Santa Fe, NM (the antique dealer said he had purchased it in Bali, Indonesia).

Recently I was asked where I get my inspiration from, and to be honest, I have no real answer to that. Sure, I could say the music I listen to, the stories and poems I read, but that doesn’t really explain why certain images and ideas come to me. Reality has never really done it for me, and I remember being a young child who wondered why life had to consist of only the normal, boring, everyday routine. Why did I have to live vicariously through films like “The Little Mermaid” and “Alice and Wonderland”? Why couldn’t I make this abstract longing for the surreal and the impossible come to life on my own terms? My dream has always been to give life to the ideas that come to me, to make them visible. Tangible. I live my dream every day. Stock Credits / Model / Background from ImageAfter.com / Stock copyrights remain the property of their respective owners.
