Still life photograph of little flower and stacked stones set on an incense tray. Mixed media print on gouache stained and acrylic and Inkaid primed Japanese Kinwashi paper. Red ink stamped Chinese characters mean: Study, Dream, and Love. 11” x 17”. The original file was shot with a Lensbaby. The image was printed on Urara paper then scanned. That file was printed onto the altered Kinwashi substrate.

The Tian Tan Buddha appears serene and dignified. His right hand is raised, representing the removal of affliction. His left hand rests on his lap in a gesture of giving (dhana). The Buddha faces north which is unique among the great Buddha statues. (All others face South.) I’m not a very religious person, but I need to know where my religious background stands in my family. This place was definitely the eye opener. How do they even carry all the 250 tonne bronze to make a 34 metre high statue up there?! A remarkable achievement. I came across this marvelous creation at the Huntington Library in California several years ago. It has always been one of my favorites. The artist who carved this fabulous work captured the very essence of love enterchanging between the members of the family. The protective arms of the father, the closeness of the three in bodily contact, the eyes of the parents upon their infant, the trust of the mother in her husband’s arms and her arm cradling the child, the innocent joy of being alive shining from the child’s face, the seated position to indicate rest and lack of fear. A perfect work of peace, love and harmony. The whole message seems to say, “With these arms I will always hold you.” There is so much spiritual feeling present in this work. The artist was a master at sculpture. The work uses every aspect of design to capture all available light, reflection and shadows to bring this work to life. I hope you like it. HDR enhanced. My new wolf friend was determined to teach me how to howl after our shared lunch. He very “tenderly” took half of my sandwich from my offering hand with his mouth, lay it down on the ground and ate it layer by layer, slowly and savoringly, unlike my dog River, who would ALWAYS “wolf down” whatever is offered to her! :) So now he set out, just a few feet away, raised one front leg a tiny bit for emphasis and howled. I got down on all fours, copied the posture and did the same. Obviously he was a little dissatisfied with my learning so he repeated the whole thing another time. Spirit Filled My life was filled with a hundred form’s of fear, / thinking no body’s listening and nobody really cares. / That deep dark hole that I had inside, / was hardly big enough for all I had to hide. / I was curled up in a corner of my little room, / all I could feel was depression and gloom. / Saying to God, “why aren’t you listening to me , / I want these feelings gone and to be set free”. That seems like such a long lifetime ago, / everything is changed now I want you to know. / My prayers were answered in God’s Own time, / he wanted me to own what was really mine. / He told me gently, to take my own inventory, / only my wrong doings was my story. / Write it all down and then tell a friend, / then you will be ready to make your amends. Then you only need follow three simple steps for today, / cleanse your heart, trust Me and Pray. / Sweeping away all the prejudices of your life, / will take away the pain that’s sharper than a knife. / Abandon yourself only to Me, / And your life will change , you will see. / Then carry My word to all in need, / tell them your story and plant that seed. On awakening I ask you Father, to be beside me today, / to walk with me so I do not stray. / Father, I continue to do all you asked, and I am thrilled, / my heart is full of gratitude and I am Spirit Filled. / You have given me more than my heart can bare, / a loving family and friends that care. / The kindness and mercy that you have shown me, / has cleansed my heart and set me free.
