Birds Of Prey Christmas Cards Night Scenes Landscape / Scenic
a beautiful night at the beach ( slow shutter speed)
I’d walked the beach near our house every morning for weeks and never took any notice of this oddly shaped stone lying in the sand – until one day when I came down and the tide was in so much more than usual that the sea had stretched out and created a pool around the stone – forming this beautiful reflection. It seemed oddly backwards that on this bright, clear autumn morning, walking along a serene stretch of beach with the inviting sea at my side I should find, bathed in the glorious comforting warmth of sunrise, a heart of stone…

A friend had told me about Lake Matheson and I was eager to get there and see the amazing reflections for myself. It was early spring and still bitterly cold which meant plenty of snowcapped mountains, my favorite vista! My fiancé and I were camping in the back of a 24 year old station wagon and after days of rain and overcast skies, we woke up to the locks and doors of the car frozen shut. I could see the first rays of light hitting the top of Aoraki (Mt Cook) through the frozen windows but couldn’t get out! Finally free of the car, we raced to the viewing platform and set up my camera just in time for the breeze to die down and the reflections to be crystal clear, a truly magic moment and a highlight of our trip to New Zealand. I love nature, and often meditate, the fragrance from my garden now in bloom, lush with brilliant white Jasmine’s fill the air with a luring scent, I picked a small branch off and decided it was time to reflect their true beauty and try to capture their fragrance by way of using the macro lens and experiment with a natural light source from a simple television screen as the backdrop. This is the end result straight from the camera. I hope you like this.
