This is Fushimi Inari in Kyoto. A Shinto Shrine with thousands of vermilion torii lining the paths on the hill on which the shrine is located. One of Kyoto’s oldest (founded in 711 AD) and most revered Shinto shrines, Fushimi Inari serves as the headquarters for all the 40,000 shrines dedicated to Inari across Japan. / Dedicated to Inari, the god of rice, sake, and prosperity. / It was featured in the film Memoirs of a Geisha.

Oil Pastel and Acrylic (With minor digital enhancements) For all the troubled souls out there, Ophelia wishes that you a pleasant sweet good night’s sleep and rest soon :D In times like these with many suffering from economic and job woes, there are people losing sleep over the lack of certainty of their futures….some of these are my close friends….a good night’s rest has become such a rare commodity for them. This started off as an encouragment card, send this card to someone who hasnt been getting restful sleep lately due to all the preoccupations with his/her woes. There are dolphins there, with whom i connected daily and a lot of sealife, including birds, seastars, rays, fish…. the original drawing is gifted to Jack, a fellow artist i met on Tangalooma and now friend, who really appreciated this drawing so much, that I felt greatly encouraged….

This is something I have always wanted to do…. sleep naked amongst the leaves, deep in a forest, knowing I was safe and protected by the tree spirits and the animals. No harm would come to me, and I would dream deeply of the Earth’s soul. The golden web of light bathing my body would fill me with great peace and joy and when I awoke I would know that I truly and rightfully belong. BEST VIEWED LARGE

I am hoping to see my brother on Christmas and armed once again with my camera I shall seek the intense colors of Kauai. We shall see. fingers crossed. I wanted to feel good so I went through my photos from Kauai and found this one. I am amazed by the Bird of Paradise, always have been.
