While a purple carpet, as shown in this photo, covering the paddocks looks very nice, this is actually a nasty weed commonly referred to as Patterson’s Curse.
2007 AirPower over Hampton Roads, Langley AFB. B-17 flyby, plane slightly banked for a perfect picture opportunity. You can almost make out the oil leaking over the engine cowl and wing (especially on port engine number 2). This is the Memphis Belle replica, the real Memphis Belle is currently undergoing restoration at the Wright Patterson Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH. Last I heard the restoration is supposed to be completed by 2010.
Patterson’s Curse is blooming around Albury.
Stormy dawn light and tones along the Cape Patterson Coast..
It always amazes me that a noxious weed such as Patterson’s Curse can look so beautiful. In times of drought particularly, it renders a paddock beautiful but useless. Cootamundra, NSW, Australia.
Patterson’s Curse, also known as Salvation Jane, is an invasive annual plant introduced to Australia in the 1880s. / This photograph was voted into the top ten of the Made By Nature challenge ‘the Colour Purple’. It was featured in Made by Nature, and also won the Made By Nature challenge ‘Meadows’ / /
Although this rock feature is called Eagles Nest….I’m going to call it Albatross Nest as some Albatrosses are in fact calling this rock spire home at the moment..Not bad sea views either in their Penthouse suite….All in a days shooting, as per some of my recent uploads….thanks for looking..
A Lego recreation of the famous still frame from Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin’s 1967 film footage of Bigfoot.
A collection of some of my favourite images, selected by me for the appropriate months of the year.
Canola & Patterson’s Curse. / Patterson’s Curse (Echium plantagineum) is an invasive annual plant native to the area surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. It is also known as Paterson’s Curse (with one “t”), Salvation Jane, Blueweed, Lady Campbell Weed, and Riverina Bluebell. / It was introduced to Australia in the 1880s, probably both as an accidental contaminate of pasture seed and as an ornamental plant. It is said that the name derives from the bitter experience of the Patterson family, early settlers of the country near Albury. They had seeds brought from Europe to beautify their garden, and then could only watch helplessly as the weed infested previously productive pastures for many miles around. / The seeds can remain in the soil & germinate for up to five years. It is toxic to stock. / The purple flower is the Patterson’s Curse. / This is really only a small amount of ‘curse’. The farmers have been quite diligent in their spraying of it. I dreamed I sent an email to a broken hearted female / Cause I’d met her in a forum on redbubble months ago
My apologies to Banjo Patterson for this less than serious rip-off based on and including tracts from his classic Australian poem Clancy of the Overflow Although it’s silly it holds some truths, particularly the concept of communicating with and becoming close to people on sites like this but feeling hamstrung when it comes to offering them any real physical support when you know they’re feeling down or doing it tough.
this building is in Smith St, Fitzroy. All I can find out is that it was a homewares/furniture department store. Not quite as big as Ikea. 3 image hdr.
No, it’s not Tokyo, it’s East Baltimore, hon! For over 100 years this structure has overlooked Patterson Park, and is still open to visitors every Sunday during the summer.
