Took this macro photograph with aperture priority, late in the afternoon, it was getting quite dark so I used a flash on this shot! Just love Palm tree bark, this one had been burnt at some stage creating the charcoal sections. I have a few more fascinating photos which I will be uploading soon! / My passion is macro photograhy. I love to find hidden landscapes and abstract art in the bark of trees or in rocks. I also am quite partial to macro floral photography! i thought i’d try some layering in photoshop. i’ve never done this before, and i did not take the picture of the model, or the checkered floor with textured wall.. all the images are off of deviant art. this kind of art i tried was inspired by myoriginalsin [check out her work its incredible!] i’m not nearly as good as her but i wanted to see if i could do it. i hope you guys like this. it took well over an hour to get it right. what i did was / 1. i searched the stock on deviant art for the background, the model, and the hearts. 2. i dragged the photo of the model over to the background picture and erased all the access background from the picture of the model [the forest area she was originally in] 3. i dragged the heart over and turned it to “sketch” so it looked like a pencil drawing. i wanted it to be transparent 4. i merged it all together 5. i played with the contrast and lighting effects. 6. i desaturated it so it wasn’t as vibrant with the models skin tones [it didnt mesh well] 7. i saved it! that is how i did this piece of art.

/ “9” is the first of a new series called “Pure Abstraction”...the title refers to the number of triangles that are apparent to the eye at first glance… all my Still Life paintings are made up of triangles and it appears that my subconscious is at work here as well, as I did not consciously plan the shapes or the number in advance…I always let paintings evolve as they will, using materials that come to hand…you can call it automatic painting, but there is no doubt there is real significance to what emerges in the end... Nine is a very significant number, and references to it occurs in mythology, the occult, the Bible, to name a few, and in mathematical science it possesses properties and powers which are found in no other number….it is the number of finality or judgement There are many layers to the painting, which evolved, as I said, almost from a subconscious need to express myself in this particular way…I think here the viewer becomes very significant in that it allows a diiferent dialogue each time the painting is seen…an abstract work engages the viewer in ways that are totally different from any other genre... Inks, Pastels, Watercolour, and Acrylic on Masonite.

I love to shoot abstracts, when you look at an image and have to stop and think for a second as to what the object might be. What I love even more is to take abstracts of seemingly ordinary things. If you haven’t figured it out yet this is a shot of an old tire.

A wonderful play of natural light, shade and colour in this Blue Foxtail Agave. This photo was taken as is, there are no special effects, lighting or any post processing on this image. It was taken in the gardens in front of St Vincents Hospital in Darlinghurst, Sydney NSW. It is also my most viewed photograph with over 3,400 views todate.
