Captured from an altitude of 11,000 metres the patterns and colours of ocean tidal-flows distinctly define the coastline near Derby in Western Australia.
Looking down at the sand at the Great Sand Dunes in Death Valley, CA
Low tide at dawn. This was taken on my last morning at Shark Bay, Western Australia. I took a walk along the beach before sunrise, and it was a low tide, and I managed to find some interesting shapes and patterns along the beach. Canon EOS 20D. Featured In: WA Red Bubbles Mk II.

This tree was a victim of tide surges which undermined it’s roots. It looks beautiful even now as it graces the beach at the lighthouse end of Sanibel Island, Florida.
A small creek running across a lava field at Montezuma Costa Rica carries black sand down across the golden sand on the beach creating these patterns, which are wiped clean by the incoming tide every day.

Hopefully Ive fooled you into thinking this is another of my aerial shots. In fact it is mud and sand in a roadside gutter after a heavy rain. I spotted it when out walking and was intrigued by the patterns along a 20 foot stretch of this stuff. Shot with Nikon D80 and 105mm macro, 1/320s f/10 ISO 250 /
