A patient bathroom at a village style asylum built in 1904 basks in the afternoon glow. I wonder how many patients bathed in this tub, looking out the window dreaming of freedom. Some folks spent nearly their entire lives in institutions like this. 100+ views! Thanks everyone!

Felix was very worried about me taking the photographs of the horses this evening. He waited patiently in the gateway, watching and waiting with a rather concerned expression on his lovely face. I think he was worried that they may eat me – then who would feed him his biscuits…. ! Got to get your priorities right in life!!!

Unreal places to be hidden away.Reality and a dreamworld become one.Silently thinking thoughts of places known before this one.Terrors real and wondered about.Retreat back to your room,some solace here where you keep your things.Old pictures,tokens of a life lived before this place,some dignity.Not a dream though,this was real for so many inside these walls. / Going through this decay a guy with a camera sees this sad world.Bringing light to it for a moment his task at hand.Embraced by this strangely sad place he wonders about those that lived here,so many did.Children for the most part he knows from research.He hopes some got out intact, and now live happily somewhere. You thought you’d be helpful and lend a hand to this poor creature, tending its wounds and all, and it repays you by chasing you down the stairs and, well, that’s where it’s at. Started as a pen and ink, and then painted it in painter.

When I saw this prayer, written by an unknown author, at the Carmelite monastery where I do volunteer work, I knew I had to incorporate it into an image and offer its consoling words to those who are suffering from Alzheimer’s as well as to family, friends, and medical personnel who care for those afflicted with this disease. I chose an image of a cloud-filled sky as the sun was setting because those with Alzheimer’s are largely in the sunset of their lives and have to contend with many issues that cloud their lives. Prayer for an Alzheimer’s Sufferer Please grant my visitors tolerance for my confusion, / Forgiveness for my irrationality, / and the strength to walk with me / Into the mist of memory my world has become. Please let them take my hand and stay awhile / Even though I seem unaware of their presence. / Help them to know how their strength and loving care / Will drift slowly into the days to come / Just when I need it most. Let them know when I don’t recognize them / that I will . . . I will. / Keep their hearts free from sorrow for me / For my sorrow when it comes only lasts a moment – / then it’s gone. And finally please let them know / how very much their visits mean, / How, even through this relentless mystery, / I can still feel the love. Amen
