  • This profound quotation is commonly called St. Teresa’s Bookmark as it was found tucked into one of the great saint’s books. St. Teresa of Avila was a Carmelite nun who lived in Spain and was a great mystic and prolific spiritual writer. I created this image today for three people: for Barbara and Jerry, my mother’s neighbors who lost their home in a fire yesterday. All of their worldly possessions were destroyed in about thirty minutes. Barbara ran out of the house with her purse, her robe and house slippers, and the cup of coffee she was holding when smoke billowed everywhere. The other person I created this for is a friend, Brenda, who emailed me to say she was feeling low and needed a word of encouragement. I thought that these three people who are deeply troubled would be comforted by these words of enduring wisdom and truth. Maybe someone else needs to hear them, too. God help us all to remember that he alone suffices and he alone is unchanging and dependable.

  • Hanging around in airports does take a lot of patience. Snapped Sydney airport March 2008.

Will press on nevertheless!! :D View my other “The Sower” creations in my Zazzle store:

  • One of my challenges in this lifetime is learning patience….patience with myself…..patience with the unfolding of life….patience with my creative process…. Spending quiet time observing nature—watching a robin patiently waiting for the right moment to grab a worm…..watching the process of the opening of a flower….or watching a turtle diligently make his way along his journey…...these times bring me awareness of the natural rhythms of life and I feel more patient within myself.

  • After answering some interview questions recently, I continued thinking about one of the questions posed. If I could, would I upload an image of me as I am, without the aid of PS editing to tweak the true-to-life bits? Well, the challenge was on. Countless shots with the camera set on timer, and using only natural light (that was fading fast), I settled on this one. Manual setting, 1 second exposure, Av f4.0. It’s interesting that although I haven’t used PS to change my appearance, I still had to apply a touch of mascara and lip gloss – and I removed my glasses. I guess I had to draw the line somewhere… ; )

  • These baby swallows were sitting on a fence railing near where we parked at the Estes Park Visitor Center. We sat and watched them for awhile as they waited for their mom to come swooping down with food for them every few minutes…..it was quite a humorous sight to see! :-) Estes Park, Colorado.

  • Reflections in the dark. A water droplet on the petal of an orchid. I like how moody, almost ‘sexy’ this picture has turned out :D I’m not used to doing black and white photography, so this was such a pleasant surprise for me! Thought I’d share it here :) Taken with my Canon Rebel XTi digital camera using a EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens. © SilverDew All comments are welcomed and appreciated. Full view is best! • Featured in Community Red bubble Weekly News!!.. I am thrilled by this humbling mention. thanks RED Bubble this is an image I took.. when on the trail from Fairbanks Alaska .. down the Alcan Highway.. info here / I drove all the way to Florida.. and left Alaska behind… (4,999 miles trip ) There I learned about a more peaceful life.. I learned there was hope in all circumstances. I learned to pause before speaking.. I met my Lord and savior there.. / this is actually in Canada, in the Yukon territory, and these hubcaps.. in the form of Totem poles are part of a collection of the store owners.. so typical of the humor of these guys.. many a people come down this trail, which is over 1000 miles long , down the Canadian rockies.. and I guess, they leave many a hubcap along the way. but the vision you see in the background is Alaska.. we were close to the border.. Ill never forget this trail. / my son and I slept in the car just left of here.. and when we woke up, I took this image.. camera : a disposable one of those kind this is in special dedication to my bubbler friend : Anibal, for she dreams of visiting this place

  • I said I’d get the hang of using the 10X magnifying lens after my tiny frog shots showed only a tiny dot of sharp focus in the centre of the focal point. I also said I get a drop of water as clear as humanly possible and top ‘sno-globe’. Honestly, I thought I had it with the shot of the drop coming out of its own icy base, part of this same shoot. But I think I better captured what I was really hoping for with ‘lichen drop 1’. Please let me know what you think (as if you wouldn’t! LOL!) and if it’s not worthy of my patting myself on the back, I’ll pat harder & lower and try again. :-D Taken at Cathy’s home in the forested area immediately beyond her back field (Penn Valley, CA), this photograph is of the tip of an oak tree with the moisture the night’s fog left behind. The lichen seem to thrive in the winter frost and dampness so the colours here are from very happy lichen the the tree branch. The camera was focused by physically moving my body and the camera into the point of focus within the drop. Between the slight breeze, my own breathing, my heartbeat, pressing the shutter release, and finally going with the timer but the shutter itself opening tossed the focus! Setting the tripod was an exercise in frustration because tightening any plane caused the composition to change. And the ultimate insult was having the shot completely set up and I bumped a neighbouring branch, causing the location I’d fought to shoot to bump into the lens and cream the drop. Arrrghhh!!!! Finding a new location and this drop was like a dream – the worst nightmare possible. I was FREEZING but still wearing gloves, a ski jacket, a sweatshirt, AND a t-shirt. I could do everything with the gloves on but the camera could be less than 1mm off and everything sucked. In the end I got the shot without the tripod, without bracketing, without fighting the wind, my body, or the rest of the tree. I set the camera, pressed the button, and let it shoot until the buffer filled about 5 times, praying I’d get at least a couple good ones. Of about 50 shots only this one is in focus to this degree. Well, God gave me one so I’d better not complain about it, ya know? ;-) The Naughty and the Nice / ___________ / Nikon D80 / NIkkor 18-55 “kit” lens / F-stop: 5.6 / Exposure: 1/15 / Focal length: 48mm / Metering mode: spot / full manual mode / creative settings: flat / January 3rd, 2009 ** / And this piece was featured in: *Macro Water Photographic Gallery with my deep gratitude! Thank you. :-)
