Time heals all wounds. Time flies when you’re having fun. Time stands still. Time waits for no one. If I could turn back the hands of Time. Frozen in Time. Timeless…. you get the idea. Well, I wanted to create a series that perhaps captured the essence of these things, in relation to human emotion. And so my Time series was born. I know in my heart what each of them means, but I did not name them anything specific, so that the viewer could make up their own mind as to the meaning of each piece. I think that is something unique to every individual. So…my heartfelt thanks for continuing to watch and support my artistic endeavors. It feeds the fire that burns and inspires. / Aimee
Why yes, this would make a great Valentines Day card. Thanks for asking!
I was down at Newcastle Beach this morning because I woke up to see a big swell pumping through Merewether but it just wasn’t performing.. so I decided to explore other parts of Newcastle which I’ve never bothered to photograph before. I was set up with my 500mm lens to get some surfing photographs, but due to the salty mist (making it difficult to see and focus) and my low placement (couldnt really see the wave if a wave had just broken in front of it), it wasn’t ideal for any decent surfing photographs. There were only a few decent waves coming through anyway which were actually being ridden, some were a bit too fat or shutting down too soon. So I swivled my gigantic lens around to see these guys waiting patiently to jump off the rocks into the surf. With the low sun, it created some beautiful back lighting perfect for silhouettes.

This is dedicated to the cats of my friend, Kathryn, who wait patiently for her to come back from her many trips across the world.
“The LORD your God is with you, / he is mighty to save. / He will take great delight in you, / he will quiet you with his love, / he will rejoice over you with singing.” “The sorrows for the appointed feasts / I will remove from you; / they are a burden and a reproach to you. At that time I will deal / with all who oppressed you; / I will rescue the lame / and gather those who have been scattered. / I will give them praise and honor / in every land where they were put to shame. At that time I will gather you; / at that time I will bring you home. / I will give you honor and praise / among all the peoples of the earth / when I restore your fortunes / before your very eyes,” / says the LORD. / ~Zephaniah 3:17-20 Stock Credits: / Texture by http://inthename-stock.deviantart.com/ / Horse by http://absurdus.deviantart.com/ / Woman by http://mizzd-stock.deviantart.com/ / Background by http://anarasha-stock.deviantart.com/

When I saw this prayer, written by an unknown author, at the Carmelite monastery where I do volunteer work, I knew I had to incorporate it into an image and offer its consoling words to those who are suffering from Alzheimer’s as well as to family, friends, and medical personnel who care for those afflicted with this disease. I chose an image of a cloud-filled sky as the sun was setting because those with Alzheimer’s are largely in the sunset of their lives and have to contend with many issues that cloud their lives. Prayer for an Alzheimer’s Sufferer Please grant my visitors tolerance for my confusion, / Forgiveness for my irrationality, / and the strength to walk with me / Into the mist of memory my world has become. Please let them take my hand and stay awhile / Even though I seem unaware of their presence. / Help them to know how their strength and loving care / Will drift slowly into the days to come / Just when I need it most. Let them know when I don’t recognize them / that I will . . . I will. / Keep their hearts free from sorrow for me / For my sorrow when it comes only lasts a moment – / then it’s gone. And finally please let them know / how very much their visits mean, / How, even through this relentless mystery, / I can still feel the love. Amen
Charcoal and chalk, 80×45 cms. Sold. / This piece was done when I was quite down. I think it shows in my work, It is unavoidable in art. Emotions will translate themselves into lines and shades unconsciously. Kirsty posed for me and I believe she was very down as well. Ah, well. Solace in art? Truth, maybe. Maybe not. Fortunately it does not diminish my skills, only my confidence. It is very clear to me which works have been done in times when I have been down: Small acts of Kindness, Funereal and Exit Music, etc. They all bear this soft hesitation. I wasn’t thinking of the Guns n roses song when i named it. At all.

Hanging around in airports does take a lot of patience. Snapped Sydney airport March 2008.
I said I’d get the hang of using the 10X magnifying lens after my tiny frog shots showed only a tiny dot of sharp focus in the centre of the focal point. I also said I get a drop of water as clear as humanly possible and top ‘sno-globe’. Honestly, I thought I had it with the shot of the drop coming out of its own icy base, part of this same shoot. But I think I better captured what I was really hoping for with ‘lichen drop 1’. Please let me know what you think (as if you wouldn’t! LOL!) and if it’s not worthy of my patting myself on the back, I’ll pat harder & lower and try again. :-D Taken at Cathy’s home in the forested area immediately beyond her back field (Penn Valley, CA), this photograph is of the tip of an oak tree with the moisture the night’s fog left behind. The lichen seem to thrive in the winter frost and dampness so the colours here are from very happy lichen the the tree branch. The camera was focused by physically moving my body and the camera into the point of focus within the drop. Between the slight breeze, my own breathing, my heartbeat, pressing the shutter release, and finally going with the timer but the shutter itself opening tossed the focus! Setting the tripod was an exercise in frustration because tightening any plane caused the composition to change. And the ultimate insult was having the shot completely set up and I bumped a neighbouring branch, causing the location I’d fought to shoot to bump into the lens and cream the drop. Arrrghhh!!!! Finding a new location and this drop was like a dream – the worst nightmare possible. I was FREEZING but still wearing gloves, a ski jacket, a sweatshirt, AND a t-shirt. I could do everything with the gloves on but the camera could be less than 1mm off and everything sucked. In the end I got the shot without the tripod, without bracketing, without fighting the wind, my body, or the rest of the tree. I set the camera, pressed the button, and let it shoot until the buffer filled about 5 times, praying I’d get at least a couple good ones. Of about 50 shots only this one is in focus to this degree. Well, God gave me one so I’d better not complain about it, ya know? ;-) The Naughty and the Nice / ___________ / Nikon D80 / NIkkor 18-55 “kit” lens / F-stop: 5.6 / Exposure: 1/15 / Focal length: 48mm / Metering mode: spot / full manual mode / creative settings: flat / January 3rd, 2009 ** / And this piece was featured in: *Macro Water Photographic Gallery with my deep gratitude!
