I would like to thank very much, who ever purchased ‘Up the Garden Path’ as a card, today. It is my first sale! Last night I had food poisoning, so to wake up and find that I have had my first sale today, was a well-earned and fabulous surprise. Please let me know if it was you, as I would like to personally thank you. That shot is one of my favs, too. Many thanks indeed Elana

I am so sickened that people just do not want to understand the fact that it is taboo to use Australian Aboriginal imagery in your artwork unless you have been given permission by the people (Aboriginal) who own that imagery. I am sick of being abused when I try and let people know that they have done the wrong thing. Come on people stealing is stealing. Do act stupid or dumb or take offence when you get caught. all I am asking that you do not rob us (Aboriginal people) of a chance of an income – come on! we have had enough stolen from us already – do you really need to keep stealling from us. I do understand that you want to appropriate our work cos’ it’s beautiful, unique & saleable; but please admire it from a far – please let us create the work, as we know what we are doing (and we are not breaching protocol). I am getting tired of fighting and trust me I am really a peaceful person – but it is not fair on our artists who rely on there art to feed there families – cos’ our welfare system sucks – and least we are trying to do something for our selves, but it is so hard to sell the genuine article cos’of all those ripp off merchants who undercut us. Any way enough said for now cos’ I am just getting angry and it’s not good for my health.

Some kind people have asked about my garden. It is not very big but has been designed to look very large. The entirety of the garden is impossible to see in any one location. In person it is intimate and everything is close by and touchable. There is no one time of year when the garden is at it’s best but my wife and I do enjoy it when the wild California poppies bloom. The rocks have been collected over a period of twenty years and most of them carried in the back of my hatchbacks, a Tercel, Civic, and Mazda 3. I have never owned a pickup truck. Most of the rocks have been found near roads in the mountains or just empty fields. Finding beautiful rocks is getting harder as I’m not the only one looking for them. The look of this garden can only be arrived at with the passage of time. / Wabi sabi and whimsy have guided efforts in it’s conception. The cats love the garden as do birds of all kinds, plus snakes and lizards. I hope to retain possession of it until I die and most of my retirement will involve recording it in creative ways. I’d like to capture in paint someday as well.

I am finding that, as I float around the bubble and critically look around me right where I am, I am on a fascinating journey that is changing my experience of the world. I am on a search for beauty. I feel like there is a part of my brain that is waking up, that has been sleeping for a long time. I’ve always made an effort to find something to appreciate in each day…now my experience is to not only find it, but to capture it and keep it, then share it. I am a chronic learner, and constant student, but I have to say that I never thought I’d be seeking this. It is a thirst, and I know that I am on an important journey, a path like the first little spiral of Dorothy’s yellow brick road. Around I go, and I am a little dizzy, I admit, but I have a feeling that it is leading somewhere spectacular.

Koty and I are hunting for photo ops in southern Alberta. We are staying at a little berg called Blairmore in Crowsnest Pass. This morning we headed out for Chinook Lake. Missed the turnoff and ended up way up the road to nowhere. By the time we finally found the darned thing the morning light was history. Summer in the northern parts is a tough time too shoot, for me anyway. Evening doesn’t get here until 9:00pm and by that time I’m ready for bed. Can hardly wait for Fall. This afternoon we drove into the sunset. Went as far as Sparwood. Didn’t find much to shoot. Took the trail where we had earlier found baby Bullwinkle but no soap. Stopped in at Miner’s Path. Took a few wildflower shots and some water shots.

Here is a fantastic Poem by Pablo Neruda… And because Love battles / / And because love battles / not only in its burning agricultures / but also in the mouth of men and women, / I will finish off by taking the path away / to those who between my chest and your fragrance / want to interpose their obscure plant. About me, nothing worse / they will tell you, my love, / than what I told you. I lived in the prairies / before I got to know you / and I did not wait love but I was / laying in wait for and I jumped on the rose. What more can they tell you? / I am neither good nor bad but a man, / and they will then associate the danger / of my life, which you know / and which with your passion you shared. And good, this danger / is danger of love, of complete love / for all life, / for all lives, / and if this love brings us / the death and the prisons, / I am sure that your big eyes, / as when I kiss them, / will then close with pride, / into double pride, love, / with your pride and my pride. But to my ears they will come before / to wear down the tour / of the sweet and hard love which binds us, / and they will say: “The one / you love, / is not a woman for you, / Why do you love her? I think / you could find one more beautiful, / more serious, more deep, / more other, you understand me, look how she’s light, / and what a head she has, / and look at how she dresses, / and etcetera and etcetera”. And I in these lines say: / Like this I want you, love, / love, Like this I love you, / as you dress / and how your hair lifts up / and how your mouth smiles, / light as the water / of the spring upon the pure stones, / Like this I love you, beloved. To bread I do not ask to teach me / but only not to lack during every day of life. / I don’t know anything about light, from where / it comes nor where it goes, / I only want the light to light up, / I do not ask to the night / explanations, / I wait for it and it envelops me, / And so you, bread and light / And shadow are. You came to my life / with what you were bringing, / made / of light and bread and shadow I expected you, / and Like this I need you, / Like this I love you, / and to those who want to hear tomorrow / that which I will not tell them, let them read it here, / and let them back off today because it is early / for these arguments. Tomorrow we will only give them / a leaf of the tree of our love, a leaf / which will fall on the earth / like if it had been made by our lips / like a kiss which falls / from our invincible heights / to show the fire and the tenderness / of a true love.

In my life I came to find, an ancient path that did wind. I was strangely drawn to walk it then, my first step the voice came to my head. Once on the path she said you must throw off the coat of ignorance. Please hear our ancient call it will be the only way to go forward. Let the past be a lesson not a fate. Only then can you come down this path. Let the ancients guide you along. Be happy that you..ve been given hard lessons to learn in your life. Pull out the thorn that is piercing you and festering, to get on with life. Please hear our ancient call you may one day be the teacher. For once you begin to love yourself, passion will radiate from within. So full of love it will spill out to those around you who will see and feel it then. Love is free for one and all. Come down this path and learn it well, Life..s circle is pulling you here. Take another step and come learn more. Beauty is within you I can see it. You must come forward and let it free. I felt the weight lifted from me then the step was like floating free at last. Please hear our ancient call the next step is even easier than before. Please hear our ancient call then there was a transformation from within. The ancient one caught me as I stumbled, come ahead we won..t let you fall. For here you are on sacred ground. Learning to open myself from within I learned to love me once more. Now things began not to seem such a load. I realized I had a mission in this life wife, mother, teacher and so much more. As I was guided down the path, I heard her beautiful voice come to me. Now I must leave you soon the path will be in yours alone to walk. Remember my words honor thyself, honor commitments to others as you go. Soon again I will see you I know, for the circle of life never ends. Another day, another path among friends. Please hear our ancient call. We will meet when you need me again. For the sacred paths and the circle of life never ends. Copyright ©2003 magic1gal
