  • This image was taken before dawn down at North Narrabeen Rock Pool. This is one of the largest rock pools in Australia. This image was a 3 minute exposure which captures a lovely blurring of the clouds. The interesting colours of the water are due to overhead lighting on the pool. This is a very simple but peaceful image. For those that want to find out how I produced this, I described my processing in detail in one of my blog posts You can read it here

  • La Rue Obscure is the oldest street in the old town of Villefranche sur Mer on the French Riviera, between Nice and Monaco. It was built on virgin soil at the beginning of the 13th century. La Rue Obscure formed the basis of the rest of the town’s construction on the slopes rising from this coastal lane. It gave inhabitants of the town certain refuge against possible attacks. The ship captains who were forced by storms to anchor in the bay, could make necessary repairs in safety. La Rue Obscure also welcomed precious merchandise, such as wine, in its cellars.

  • Two girls walk down a winding path towards a large fantasy full moon. The original photo was taken at Craters Of The Moon National Monument in Idaho on an overcast day with a white sky. The two sisters were walking down the path with mom and dad directly behind, so I knew I had only one chance to capture the shot. / I quickly set up my tripod. / The blurred effect of the girls was from using slow speed Velvia 50 slide film. In Photoshop the midnight blue sky was placed in using the gradient tool, The moon was imported from another separate image I had taken. The stars were then put in place using the brush tool at different sizes. : http://www.redbubble.com/products/configure/1268205

  • A photo I took yesterday at the East Ballina wall with a liiiitle bit of help from photoshop. I don’t know what’s happening to me! I’m usually such a pen and paper girl but can’t seem to get enough of “digitally re-mastering” my amateur photos.

NOTE: Rainbow Waterfalls was nominated to the Pay It Forward group by Kathy S Gillentine and here is what she had to say: ”I want to nominate bigd / He has a great eye for photography. He has allowed to ask me how to do things if he’s not sure ,then he helps me find the way. Big D has been a true inspiration to me ,not only by his work but by his kindness to help me when I need help. His images are beautiful and well thought out. Take the time to look through his extensive portfolio and be inspired by his work.” Kathy S Gillentine It’s a huge surprise and thanks Kathy. • I’m temporally challenged so dawn shots are rare for me but a couple of times a year near to daylight saving change-overs the sun stops getting up at a silly hour and becomes rather more civilised. I was lucky enough to shoot this after a night of rain so the rock pool on top of the cliffs was full. Shot off Bundeena Cliffs, Royal National Park, Sydney. Canon 1Ds Mk III / Tv: 1/30 sec / Av: f/22 / ISO: 200 / FL: 35mm

  • Ganoga Falls is the tallest of the 22 named waterfalls in Rickett’s Glen State Park, at 94 feet. This wonderful PA State Park is located along RT-118 in north eastern Pennsylvania. The Ganoga Glen is about 3 mi. from the Trail Head parking area, on the Falls Trail. Normally, that’s nearly half of the way to Lake Jean, which was my original destination. The trail also has a 1,350 foot elevation rise, from Trail’s Head to Lake Jean. Unfortunately, the last mile of Falls Trail trail was temporarily closed. Much to my surprise, an additional 3.5 miles had to be added on the normal 7.2 mile hike. Needless to say, I’m bushed! There was an interesting event that had happened about a half hour before I snapped this image. A large dead tree on the left side of the very top of the falls had just toppled over, crashing onto a healthy mature tree on the right side of the stream. A big branch was sheared off of the live tree. It came down, splashing into the plunge pool below. The fallen branch can be seen on the right side of my picture. The old dead tree is still wedged against the live tree near the top of the falls. This photo was captured on Saturday, August 15th, 2009 at 3:19 pm with a Canon EOS 10D camera body fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens, at the 22mm focal length. The shutter speed was .3 sec at f/16. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. Your comments are always welcome!
