  • Ever had that feeling of absence?

  • A self-portrait with another self-portrait and my last painting as a background. Foreground: Nude, pastel drawing on watercolor paper, private collection Europe / Background: YouMe, oil on canvas, private collection Australia I reluctantly did this self-portrait, it was one of the compulsory themes for my final exam in Portraiture Photography. My teacher told us to come with something creative and interesting, and gave us some amazing examples from previous years. I left this till the last moment because nothing interesting crossed my mind. In the end I took my last drawing for Chris Orchard’s class and my last painting and did this. I used the natural light which was coming from the balcony from my right side. The image wasn’t “photoshoped”. / Finally when I got up there in front to talk about my work, I was surprised to see that this work was everyone’s favorite. It was the least prepared of all my works. The commission selected it to put it on the school website, and not long after, The Advertiser news paper, called me to publish it. My agent printed it on a large canvas which was sold during South Australian Living Artists Festival.

  • And Mary said: / “ My soul magnifies the Lord, / And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. / For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; / For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. / For He who is mighty has done great things for me, / And holy is His name. / And His mercy is on those who fear Him / From generation to generation. / He has shown strength with His arm; / He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. / He has put down the mighty from their thrones, / And exalted the lowly. / He has filled the hungry with good things, / And the rich He has sent away empty. / He has helped His servant Israel, / In remembrance of His mercy, / As He spoke to our fathers, / To Abraham and to his seed forever.” / ~Luke 1:46-55 Photomanipulation created in Photoshop CS2. • A portrait of my daughter, Jessica, painted in Pastel. We dressed her in a gown that had been my Mother’s and tried to replicate the era with her hairstyle, makeup and jewelry. This was painted with soft pastels on Canson paper which was a brown color. Hard pastel and pastel pencils were used sparingly where fine lines and details werre needed. 24”x18”

  • This beautiful lady is a pencil, ink and chalk pastel on a piece of watercolor/pastel paper. I have been working on her for a couple of months. I wanted to have her finished by my birthday this last Sunday, April 19th… so Saturday I called her FINISHED. I was experimenting on this piece with different layering techniques that I have used on a few of the other pieces that got uploaded here before her. This was so involved that I don’t know how many that I will do like this. But I am happy with her. She represents all of the women of the world who are now just ‘waking up’.

  • This is a portrait of my daughter, Jessica in her wedding gown. I painted this in Pastel on sanded paper.

  • 19×25 pastel on Sennelier La Carte paper FEATURED IN C.O.R.E., FRIENDS OF RED BUBBLE, FIRST THINGS, THE PATCHWORK, AND THE SISTERHOOD / She has been sitting on my easel for the longest time. I finally got inspired to finish her. I made her a lot bigger than the others in the series, so that should appease her for me taking so long on her. / She is the Spirit of the North Wind. It is the wind of Winter and of death, but also of rebirth. She gives us the wisdom to overcome death and to know it is not the end. We must walk through the Northern gate at the end of this life and she will be the one to usher us through. Listen to cold Winter wind, and let her help you release your fears into the darkness of the night. Also from the Series

  • This was fun. / I started with a photo that I found in an old reference file – did a marker sketch on white 80 lb. cover stock paper using warm and cool grey markers and then layered cool and warm colored chalk pastels on top. I dedicate this piece to Jack Kershner of Lance Lot Studios. He hired me right after graduating from college. He taught me so much about the advertising business and I will share some of the wonderful stories with you some day soon in my Journal. Here is one that pertains to this piece - One early spring afternoon Jack told me that I should bring my lunch with me the next day. He was going to take me somewhere special for a picnic. The next day we closed the shop early for lunch and we walked through the busy business district where the studio was located to an underpass beneath the county courthouse. It was a typical windy St. Louis spring day and we were having some difficulty spreading out our sack lunch on a metal bench that was directly under a flight of stairs that took you up to the landing in front of the courthouse. It was like being inside of a wind tunnel and I didn’t see any special reason for being here… until all of the secretaries that worked in the surrounding buildings (dressed in their business dresses and skirts) decided to also go to lunch and use the stairs that we were sitting under to get to all of the restaurants. It was quite a show as each one battled with the wind whirling up the stairs. Okay… I am not too proud of that now, but I was just 21 at the time, and this was my first job after school, and my first boss…

  • Colour pencil, graphite and pastel on paper. 19×25 cm. It’s been hard finding personal drawing time of late. She has been ‘in the making’ for about 5 weeks. It feels nice to have a piece finished. Hope to start a new one today.
