At 3am this morning, I thought I’d start shoveling my backyard. The depth of snow deterred my ambition in cleaning up except a couple of “tunnels” for River – I took a picture of my little shed at pre-dawn and went to the nature park near by with River. :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada.
It was a freezing day while River and I were in the nature park. The trees looked cold but stood tall and strong. This is the same image as the first “Winter Blues” after Gigi told me that I should try a darker color for it. So it qualifies as my third try on this “effect thing” thanks to all the instructions and guidance from my “mentor” on this matter! I guess one could say that I love anything that has to do with nature including the living beings, the woods, the trees, the rivers and streams, and the mountains…. In a way, the trees represent longevity even though my “rational mind” knows they don’t live forever – my “passion” towards the trees is in its “illusion” of the ever lasting life, or perhaps what it always gives back to the earth in living or in death. :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada.
This is the little foot bridge around the forest I frequent with River. It was shot after the first snow this winter. Yesterday someone wanted to purchase this piece at a local gallery but she wanted me to give her more choices of framing and I finally came up with this version and she (along with her children) love it as her 12-year-old called it “The Magic Ice Bridge”. So I thought perhaps some of you would like it too! :)
The little shelter in the middle of the woods reminds me the peaceful and yet ever so intimate life of “The Little House on the Prairie”. :)
This photo is of the chives bordering our herb garden. An herb with many merits—one being its graceful beauty.
Original Watercolor / In two and half weeks erev Pesach is already here, time goes so fast. / Pesach (Passover) is the “time of our freedom,” the birthday of the Jewish nation. / I painted some of the food that we use for the Seder (meal). Matzah is unleavened bread that we eat during the eight days of Pesach, as we are not allowed to eat leavened bread during this time. We use wine for blessing for all holidays and Sabbath. /
The name “Pesach” comes from the Hebrew root Pei-Samekh-Cheit, meaning to pass through, to pass over, to exempt or to spare. It refers to the fact that G-d “passed over” the houses of the Jews when he was slaying the firstborn of Egypt. In English, the holiday is known as Passover. / Pesach is a Jewish and Samaritan holy day and festival commemorating the Exodus from Egypt and the liberation of the Israelites from slavery. It is also known as Festival of the Unleavened Bread. / It begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan, the first month of the Hebrew calendar, in accordance with the Hebrew Bible. The Exodus of the Jews from Egypt took place in the spring and so Passover must be celebrated in the spring. / Of all the Jewish holidays, Pesach is the one most commonly observed, even by otherwise non-observant Jews.
Passover (Hebrew: Pesach) is a seven-day Jewish holiday commemorating the Exodus from Egypt and the liberation of the Israelites from slavery. Jewish families all over the world gather tonight, the first night of Passover, for a special dinner called a Seder (Hebrew word for “order”, referring to the very specific order of the ritual). During this meal, the story of the Exodus from Egypt is retold using a special text called the Haggadah. Four cups of wine are consumed at various stages in the narrative. Passover is also called The Festival of the Unleavened Bread and it refers to the week-long period when leaven has been left out, and unleavened bread or matzah (“flatbread”), the holiday’s primary symbol, is eaten to recall the rapid departure of the Israelies from Egypt. (Wikipedia)* I wish all my RB friends a wonderful weekend. And to those who celebrate Passover I wish all the joys of Passover!

Wild flower that have come to life in Turkey at the moment ( February 2009) – they range from red, through pink to a lilac colour… the variations in colour can be spectacular. / Thanks Rachel for the tip – it does appear to be Anemone Coronaria which bloom in abundance in abandoned fields and on roadsides. Taken ‘as is’ with Sony Cybershot and cropped to a square. Wikipedia here / Anemone are perennial herbs, plants that grow from rhizomes, caudices, or tubers. Leaves grow from the base and can be simple, compound, or attached with a leaf stalk. Terminal inflorescences with two-to-nine-flowered cymes or umbels, or solitary flowers that depending on the species can be up to 60 centimeters tall. The flowers are bisexual and radially symmetric. The sepals are not persistent in fruit, and can be white, purple, blue, green, yellow, pink, or red. Fruits are achenes The meaning of the anemone flower is “forsaken” and also “a dying hope”. The flower Anemone could also be used to signify anticipation. The Anemone coronaria (“Kalanit” in Hebrew) is one of the best-known and beloved flowers in Israel. During the British Mandate of Palestine, British soldiers were nicknamed “Kalaniyot” for their red berrets. The anemone is called the wind flower because it was believed that wind is what caused it to bloom. In Ovid’s Metamorphoses (book X), Venus transforms the blood of her dead lover, Adonis, into an Anemone. One implication is that the blood-red petals are symbolic of her lost love because, as the verses conclude, they cling too loosely to the stem and are easily lost in the wind. In some versions of the myth, Venus’s tears cause the transformation. A Very Happy Passover
A Very Happy Passover
A completely graphic design for passover (Pesach) illustrating the blood of the lamb on the doorpost, and the Lion of the the Tribe of Judah in the back ground. / great for Jews and Christians alike during this Passover Season. Baruch Ha shem!
What a week Jesus had. He entered the city with cheers and celebration. As the week went on, he found himself in more and more confrontations with the religious leaders. It was Thursday and the passover was fast approaching and Jesus wanted to have a nice meal with his followers and his friends. But he realised something that they didn’t! It was to be his last meal, before he was taken away to die. He had given them so many indications and told them exactly what was going to happen, but they just didn’t hear, or perhaps they just didn’t want to hear. As early evening approached, they gathered together to celebrate the traditional meal. With each symbol the meal presented, he laid out the story of the passover that eventually led the Israelites to freedom from oppression by the Egyptians, and freedom to follow God whose power, provision, and love knows no limits. But somewhere in the story that all these Jewish friends and followers had heard since they were young, Jesus told his story, one of love and sacrifice, of passion and betrayal, and of purpose and hope! The story of the passover has a dark beginning but a joyous end. Jesus’ tale of love began that evening in the garden with darkness, fear, and corruption. But would eventually end in a joyful triumph. / Matthew 26:17-30 / Mark 14:12-26 / Luke 22:7-30 / John 13:1-30 Medium: Colour graphic art pens on watercolour paper
