Tufted Titmouse (Parus bicolor) perched against a clean blue background.
This poor little bird is seeking shelter from the blustery winter weather. Tufted Titmouse (Parus bicolor)

Great Tits are large in size at 14 cm, with a broad black line down its otherwise yellow front. The neck and head are black with white cheeks. Upper parts are olive. It has a white wingbar and outer tail feathers. It is a vocal bird, and has a large variety of calls, of which the most familiar is likened to a squeaky wheelbarrow wheel. This is a common and popular European garden bird, due to its acrobatic performances when feeding on nuts or seed. This one was in the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, feeding on some nuts.
aka Teensy’s cousin over the pond! This is a Great Tit chick, which by pure fluke I saw hopping around the tree outside my window, waiting for mum to return with some goodies. Looks like he needs a bath. Bailey’s Birdie Bistro does provide bathing as well as restaurant facilities for our wild birds and squirrels.

Coal tit (Parus ater) perched in a tree. The coal tit is the smallest of the British tits. A member of an order that has representatives across the Northern Hemisphere and is related to the titmouse and chickadee family of North America. During winter, bands of roving tits converge on trees and shrubs looking for food. These bands typically consist of several different species. / Photographed near Beauly, Scotland in March 2008.
I took the photo of this little fellow at the Royal Botanic Garden In Edinburgh last May. i had to act quickly as he (or she!) was flitting in and around the bush. I didn’t realise until i saw the photo on my PC that there was a twig right in front of him. Fractalius filter applied sparingly, given that there is a lot of detail in the background.
I spent a couple of hours trying out a dome hide next to a bird feeder. The poor light meant that I wouldn’t have been able to get a traditional sharp shot of anything moving, so I decided to try out some deliberate motion blur, with some suprising behavioural shots. Even that required quite a high ISO setting though. Camera: Canon 40D / Lens 100-400mm IS USM f/4.5-5.6 / Shutterspeed 1/125th sec

a subtler approach to the great tits, makes people think, or more likely say something inappropriate in polite company? Rude…maybe funny…probably, a laugh..watch peoples faces as they try and work out whether you know what you are wearing

Parus major is the largest member of the tit family, and is an acrobatic and noisy bird that bullies its relatives. This one is probably a male, as the black stripe down its breast is quite broad (it is narrower in the female). Taken near Liskeard, Cornwall. Pentax K10D, 1/250 sec, f 5.6, ISO 400, 200 mm lens.
