Please someone find me an excuse for the long weekend in march 2008 so I can get out of going to my nephews weeding. Shock horror I hear some of you say why wouldnt youa ttend the wedding. To fill you in, i moved away from the country town my family all lie in when i was 19 and came to Melbourne. So giving away my age I have not lived there for 26 years. over that time i always made the effort to go and visit them at the start it was 3-4 times a year and then about 10 years ago it dwindled to twice a year and now im struggling to even spend 3 days visiting them. From the time i moved my brother and sister and their family have every year made several work and social trips to Melbourne and this continues on still and out of the 26 years my brother has visited me once, when my dad was in hospital down here and dying and my sister has visited me about 10 times in all. Yes I am the black sheep who managed to escape a small country town and succeed or should i say survive ok without ever asking for their assistance. This in no way has enthused me to visit them often and when I was their last xmas I felt like I was intruding and not welcome. Now my sister has told me to keep that long weekend in March free for her sons wedding and I should bring a partner (they dont know i have a partner of 3 months). I jokingly said why would i subject my family on anyone and boy did she not get the joke. So please feel free to save me from sitting at another family event being ignored, not allowed to have an opinion just so they can show off.

I have a psycho of a son I owe my life to because my shitty cycles and baggage became the excuse I needed to fuck up his life… I don’t want or need any other people in my life, I’m incapable of caring for the two men who are with me in real-time, let alone trying to conjure up feelings I’m incapable of feeling for anyone else, Life shouldn’t be hard work any more… All I need is my Art and my Writing… Tell me something fucked up like you’re going to stalk me down and find me and I swear that I’ll never fucking talk to you again, not EVER, I’ll just slam the door in your face and walk away without a backward glance… like you, and many others before and after us, I’ve been through my fair share of shit, and yes, some of that shit has involved being stalked and raped… Saying the kind of crap you say to me isn’t funny, I’m NOT fucking smiling, my life is boringly complacent now – but it’s SAFE, and safe suits me just fucking fine, I’m sick of violence, abuse, high drama and being fucked over, I have a man who sweats blood because every day he tries to keep me alive and on a level – and a son I owe my very existence to. That in itself is enough, if not, even more than I deserve… I only want to be left alone to recreate my Life in the form of art and words aside from that, I need nothing and nobody. I was going to spend my Christmas break quietly painting my house. But when Ade and Tracey invited me to share their Christmas with them…...well, I am never one to knock back a hot dinner ;) I have had such a brilliant time with these two! Collaborating is one of the joys of being a member of the RedBubble commmunity. Collaborating with truly gifted and inspired artists is a blessing that makes me delighted to be breathing. Working with Ade and Tracey is not only the best fun but a joy in learning. They are so patient and giving and willing to share. But also with them it is about the art. There is no ego. We work to a common purpose of trying to create something special. Bouncing ideas, listening to each other, contributing to concepts, allowing for anything and being open to everything is such a joyful way to work. It’s not about whose idea it is but how to make it happen. It’s not about who creates the image, just that is gets created. The trust that is built between collaborative partners is what allows energy to flow and creates a safe place to express ideas and emotions. Trace and Ade have made my Christmas this year. Thank you to all who came to the opening and who have visited the exhibition so far. About 450 people visited the gallery on opening night. If any of you were there or have been to the gallery you’ll understand how insane it was at times. Often my space was packed and there was a steady flow of friends and family to greet as well as another steady flow of people I didn’t know giving me wonderful feedback about my work. Much of the feedback has mirrored the feedback that the images gained while they were on Redbubble. That people really related to the story of each piece. Though some reacted more strongly than others. The highlight for a friend was seeing someone with their friends suddenly react to a piece of mine by declaring “My girlfriend farted on my leg the other night!”. It seems she didn’t realise that she’d said it out loud as she turned red and hurried from the room leaving her friends behind. I also found it interesting that people had trouble believing that I was a) a man and b) single. A few people expressed their surprise that I was a man capable of such sensitivity and understanding of intimacy. However many more people started conversations with my by saying how wonderful my relationship must be or how lucky my boyfriend must be to have such a sensitive partner. To which I promptly corrected them – which usually had the effect of killing the conversation. I have to say I found this odd at the time. I had thought about what questions I might be asked and what answers I might give. Especially about the source of the thoughts written on the bodies. But I wasn’t expecting people to make assumptions about who I am as a person or what my life is like just based on the images. The other thing I felt uncomfortable about were fans. I’m not suggesting that the people I met will follow my career until the end, but just that while talking to me they were a bit starry-eyed with wonder and were hanging off my every word. I was in the gallery again today and the guy I was chatting to just seemed like he wanted the conversation to go on forever. Lastly, I have had my first gallery sale. While I appreciate the money and the recognition, what I have enjoyed most out of that experience was the person who bought it emailing me and explaining that what I had done had really touched him. And that he had bought the piece to give as a Valentine’s present for his partner. Because, to be honest, I am sick of seeing them. I have for the most part completed my journey with the concept and the pieces, but his enthusiasm after looking at the piece with fresh eyes has helped me re-establish a worth in the work that I think I had forgotten sometime after they’d gone up on the wall.

This is in response to this journal. I have chosen this image here, She sleeps softly / I love this image for many reasons and let me explain how it came about in the first place. This is my beautiful partner. It was taken on the night that we got married, while she slept. When I first met her, and got to know her, she was a very different person. / And, as the weeks went on, she slowly but surely started to let me in. One morning I woke up before her. I turned over and there she was, so peacefully sleeping. She looked more peaceful then I had ever seen her before, and it was a side to her that I never previously had the honour of seeing. / Without knowing it she had opened up to me. / She had let me in whether she wanted to or not. That day was a turning point for both us. From then on she continued to show me this soft, cute side of her that I just fell very quickly in love with. This photo is what I saw that day, and every other morning from then on. Its been taken from my perspective, as though laying next her. Its a constant reminder of the moment I began to see the real her and taken on a night of such importants to us both. I love this women and hope to continue loving her for as long as possible. L.

Claims that Sweeney Todd was a real person are strongly disputed by scholars, although there are possible legendary prototypes, arguably making the story of Sweeney Todd an example of an urban legend. In the original version of the tale he is a barber who murders wealthy customers by pulling a lever while they are in his barber chair which, unknown to them, is fixed to a revolving trap-door, making them fall backward into the basement, generally causing them to break their necks or skulls as they hit the ground. Just in case they are alive, he goes to the basement and “polishes them off”, meaning he slits their throats with a cut-throat razor. After Todd has robbed his dead victims of their goods, Mrs. Lovett, his partner in crime (in some later versions, his friend who wants to become his lover), assists him in disposing of the bodies by having their flesh baked into meat pies, and selling them to the unsuspecting customers of her pie shop. Todd’s barber shop is situated at 186 Fleet Street, London, next to St. Dunstan’s church, and is connected to Mrs. Lovett’s pie shop in nearby Bell Yard by means of an underground passage.

He was the son of famous Peruvian photographer Carlos Vargas. His early career included work as an artist for the Ziegfeld Follies and for many Hollywood studios. Vargas’ most famous piece of film work was that for the 1933 film The Sin of Nora Moran, which shows a near-naked Zita Johann in a pose of desperation. The poster is frequently named one of the greatest movie posters ever made. He became famous in the 1940s as the creator of iconic World War II era pin-ups for Esquire magazine known as “Varga Girls.” The nose art of many World War II aircraft was adapted from these Esquire pin-ups. A legal dispute with Esquire over the use of the name “Varga” resulted in a judgment against Vargas and he struggled financially until the 1960s when Playboy magazine began to use his work as “Vargas Girls.” His career flourished and he had major exhibitions of his work all over the world. The death of his wife Anna Mae in 1974 left him devastated and he stopped painting.
