We kept hearing “Have you seen the turtle?” all the time we were walking today and didn’t know what they were talking about near the finish line when we saw this fellow. I don’t know if it walked the entire three miles but it was walking when we saw it. The man whose foot the turtle is stepping on walked beside it. The turtle kept stepping on his foot? It is even wearing a “Walk for the Cure t-shirt”!!!
This descendant of the Tainos people took part in the ceremony that you can see in the 2 other pictures I posted in this series about the spirits orbs. This is was a reconstitution of a Tainos religious Spanish, conquest, ceremony to the memories of the dead I captured it at the “Manatee National Park ” in Punta Cana Dominican Rep. Caribbean Island. / This is a series of about 12 pictures I took during the religious ceremony, on the first (not posted) we can clearly see the start of the elevations of the spirits of dead Tainos gradually rising from the middle of the artifact skeletons that are covered with a glass top inside a corded barrier for preservation and are in the ground in the middle center of the ceremony, in this picture we can very well and clearly see all of the hundreds of spirits that have raised from the tomb in the ground while the pinnacle of the ceremony was going on… The skeletons and other artifacts more that 500 years old of the Tainos people where found in a archeological excavation of the village that was in the past, on the terrain of the Manatee National Park Preserve. The Taínos were pre-Columbian inhabitants of the Bahamas, Greater Antilles, and the northern Lesser Antilles. It is believed that the seafaring Taínos were relatives of the Arawakan people of South America. Their language is a member of the Maipurean linguistic family, which ranges from South America across the Caribbean. At the time of Columbus’s arrival in 1492, there were five Taíno kingdoms and territories on Hispaniola (modern day Dominican Republic and Haiti), each led by a principal Cacique (chieftain), to whom tribute was paid. As the hereditary head chief of Taíno tribes, the cacique was paid significant tribute. Caciques enjoyed the privilege of wearing golden pendants called guani, living in square bohíos instead of the round ones the villagers inhabited, and sat on wooden stools when receiving guests. At the time of the Spanish conquest, the largest Taíno population centers may have contained over 3,000 people each. The Taínos were historical neighbors and enemies of the fierce Carib tribes, another group with origins in South America who lived principally in the Lesser Antilles. The relationship between the two groups has been the subject of much study. This photo as is , taken with my Photosmart HP R927 camera, NO enhancement watch so ever! Thank you to all wonderful moderators that do awesome work, Kudo!!! / 11/mar/2009-Featured in ” Natural color and light” Group, thank you! / 12/mar/2009-Featured in “If it doesn’t belong” Group
Another shot from my archives!! This shot is of me during our trip to Kenya and Tanzania a few years ago. As a group we had been invited to a Maasai village to see how and where they live, meet Maasai people and their wonderful childen who were amazingly friendly. Some of us were “volunteered” to accompany the Maasai in their traditional dance. The Maasai’s started throat singing which was amazing to hear and then they started their jumping dance. At some stage I knew I would make a fool of myself and this is the result!!! A few minutes after this shot we were taken to the IT suite of their nearby school. One of the computers was stamped with a school marker that one of our group members was teaching at….as they say it is a small world!!!

It appeals to me to make a video of Red Bubble artworks into a video to go on You Tube and other video sites to try and promote our bubbles. I’d like to include works of other Bubblers here on Red Bubble to the video as well. Everyone who contributes some work will have their name / user name / location shown with their work. The video will consist of our works with titles / credits, frame transitions and musical accompaniment. Depending on the response I could make more videos later. Initially let’s say the first 20 people to post a comment to this journal entry will have 3 pieces go in the video.Work goes in the video in order of comment in the cue. (my 3 pieces first since I’m making the vid, k?) No charge, no entry fee, no prizes, just permission to use your work in this manner and the hope of expanding our horizons. (..and a copy of the wmv file / for anyone who wants to pass it around) What do you say? Shall we give it a go?
Mendon, Utah. A procession precedes crowning of The Queen of May during Mayday festivities annually from a tradition of more than a hundred years. Inaugurated by pioneers as a method of diversion and community bonding. A lively pair behave rambunctiously. A young mother admonishes her little daughter to take the rites a little more seriously while her resentful partner, a little boy manifests his displeasure.
The Red Bub…
The Red Bubble Club concept has been set up as an alternative to Red Bubble Groups. This is not to knock Groups, but to put forth an alternative in addition to Groups here on Red Bubble. The purpose is to include 12 Red Bubble Artists and give them extra exposure for their work. The main advantage over Groups is that with Groups your work eventually becomes buried under other artist’s works after the Group increases in member size. With a Club your Avatar is always present on the front page and will always be as long as you stay a member of the Club due to the fact that no more than 12 members are allowed to join each Club. The Red Bubble Team has not endorsed, promoted, sanctioned or other wise been involved in creating ‘Clubs’. This Club concept is the brainchild Thomas Pettit. CLUB ONE IS FULL! / One day after posting this journal entry, it is full. Never imagined such a positive response!!! If you want to start your own club, I’ll design the avatar for you and tell you the basics if how I did it. A word of caution though, this would be a task for someone who is proficient at cutting, pasting, and most of all coding links! / I can help some, but can’t devote enough time to go through every step with someone new to this. If and when other Club Leaders start their Clubs and let me know about it, I’ll post a link in this journal entry. If you just want to be a member of a Club and not a Leader, check back to see what Clubs may open up. If you start a Club on your own with your own designs and rules, let me know, I’ll post a link here for those type Clubs too. OTHER CLUBS: • WildOnes / / WildOnes was started by Mundy Hackett on 5/3/08 • CircleOfLight / / CircleOfLight was started by Butchart on 5/8/08

To my sheer delight, my hosting hat is now sprouting two bouquets of scarlet plumes… for not only do I have the extremely enjoyable privilege of reviving Graphic Scratch from the dead (with the support of incredible group member participation) but I’ve also recently joined Short Stories as a co-host… and really couldn’t be happier, even if I was showered with red shoes and a bookshelf of first edition hardcovers. So I thought I’d put together this little note to spread the song far and wide: after the changing of the guard at Short Stories, I’ve moved in with my lovely old writing desk and ink pot to lend whatever I can of my words and imagination to help invigorate and motivate such a well-rounded strong group of brilliant writers. If you haven’t checked out the Short Stories group in a while, please do. Please write! Contribute! Join in! Anything to stop me throwing around so many exuberant exclamation marks and cheerleader chants. If you’re a new writer on Red Bubble and you’d like to get involved in discussion, writing challenges and development, please make yourself something delicious to sip on and go explore these two writing mobs – even if you don’t find anything that takes your fancy, you will find links to other writing groups on the Bubble that are sure to charm your palate. And if you’re a word nerd who’s been a Bubbly for a while now but have lost your groove, be brave… blow the dust off your blank notebook pages and take a look around… those words of yours are in there somewhere, they just need a little enticing to come out and play… Of course, for either group in which I consider my hosting role to be the stoker of all the little wildfires your words and works set alight around the place, I wholeheartedly encourage you to make your voice heard if you have any ideas, questions, suggestions or requests for writing challenges, snippets, information and what-not. What does your writing need to grow? Would you like more interaction with writers here to create a more productive environment for your words? Check out the writing groups around and have a think about it… you never know what wonder waits beyond the nib of your pen. Thanks for reading. Your ladle in a pot of word soup, / Holly.
