  • This is the actual color of Crater Lake in Oregon. It is the deepest lake in the world, and because it has minimal animal or plant life in the lake, it is a pristine blue color. The lake was formed from the blast of a volcano (Wizard Island is the remnant). The only boats allowed are the tour boats, which are few and far between.

  • Early morning on the Norfolk Broads, England. The glowing sunlight on the mist up ahead, where the river narrows, makes one eager to discover what beauty lies in wait around the next bend. / /

  • USA, Montana, Glacier National Park, Saint Mary Lake. Shot this in July 2005 during a camping trip there. Just my little digital Kodak Easy Share camera that takes awesome images. Using Photoshop, I adjusted the levels and saturation a bit to see the bark of the tree better. One of my favorite pictures I’ve taken. Perfectly Framed View was featured on October 14, 2008 in the group / Montana: The Treasure State Have sold a laminated print of this image. Glacier National Park Series / /

  • Golden Cloud reflected in Tatton mere.

  • After visiting the beautiful Cambewarra Lookout in the Morton National Park south of Sydney, you can meander down the mountain towards Nowra and this is the type of panoramic scenery you will find … Smoke haze is evident here from the bushfires further into the Morton National Park at the time. • THIS IS A BIG IMAGE VIEW LARGER FOR BEST RESULTS This shot was taken from Echo Point in the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area at sunset, it was created from 5 bracketed images using a Nikon D300 fitted with a Nikon 18-200mm. No filters were used. The rock formations to the left are known as “The Three Sisters” the image was taken at sunrise looking past the Sisters certainly have a great view. The Blue Mountains are located 2 hours west of Sydney by road, also by train for visitors to Sydney, there are also organised day trips via motor coach that will take you to the area for the day…. though if you have the time spend a few days in the area. You can see all the attractions, have a devonshire tea in one of the many teahouses, or sit on the edge of the valley that seems to go on forever, and listen to the birdlife. Bushwalking is a must !

  • Another Great Day with my Sweetie !!! / Newburyport Mass / taken May 27, 2009

  • Published in DIGITAL PHOTO magazine. There exists a whole row of abandoned buildings along Mormon Row, a phtotgraphic delight, if you don’t mind sharing it with a whole bunch of other photographers ! Deservedly popular , backed up as it is by the amazing Teton mountain range. The town of Jackson is nearby. / The Mormon people were evicted when the National Park was created. I decided to give this the HDR and Orton treatment, to bring out the texture of the wood, and add a little drama to the scene. Shot on my Canon EOS 40D,mounted on tripod, polarising filter, iso 100, f22, 1/30 sec, cloudy WB, RAW file, processed in Photomatix, with further adjustments in PS CS3, and a little Orton applied. Finished with LAB colour to oomph it up a bit ! • This view is featured in the last scene of the movie “Attonement” A 3 Shot HDR Processed in Photomatix Pro / / Seven Sisters Country Park / Found at the point where the South Downs meets the sea, the Sisters were created when ancient rivers cut valleys into the chalk, creating seven peaks. Haven Brow, the highest of them at 253 feet (77 metres), stands majestically to the west of her other sisters who in order are called Short Brow, Rough Brow, Brass Point, Flagstaff Point, Baily’s Brow and Went Hill Brow. Under the sea at the foot of the cliffs are a number of gullies and ridges – varied marine life such as sea anemones, snails, and sponges can be found there. Now part of the Heritage Coast, an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ and also a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest’, the beauty of the area will be protected for generations to come The area has a long and interesting history, including some fascinating shipwrecks, which you can discover on a series of shorewalks. SSCP is a great place to explore on foot, by bicycle or by canoe, particularly along the spectacular meanders of the Cuckmere River.

  • The Moulton Barn, Mormon Row, Teton National Park, Jackson, Wyoming, USA. I got up early for this one, I had travelled thousands of miles to see it, had only one morning to get my shot in the bag – and what did I find ? / A film crew shooting an advert ! Along with a battalion of other photographers, I was champing at the ‘bit’, since we weren’t allowed to shoot in case we captured the models – male and female – the whole darned thing was so artificial !! So, when there was a lull in shooting, I crept under a bush and hastily ‘snapped’ my shot. Maybe I should pursue a career in the ‘Paparazzi ??!!! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D with polarising filter attached, mounted very hastily on my tripod, Canon efs 18-55mm lens set at 45mm, underexposed by half a stop, f 27, 1/20 sec, auto wb, iso 100, RAW file developed as much as possible in Adobe Camera Raw, then in PS CS3, selective Levels/Curves, saturation of colours achieved with LAB colour, then the tiniest amount of Orton applied, to ‘pop’ the textures of the wood and grass. • This little painting is the result of an oil sketch I did when I was in Katoomba recently. I love how when you drive or walk around Katoomba (or the other villages of the upper mountains) you often turn a corner or crest a hill and you find yourself confronted by the most spectacular view. There are a few spots which I really love. Whenever I was on my way to work (or whatever), these glimpses would energise me for the day ahead… reminding me of where we were… in a City within a World Heritage National Park. The way that civilisation exists along a narrow plateau which gives way to mountains and valleys also fascinates me. I often feel that Mother Nature is being incredibly generous in allowing our towns to flourish here… although she does remind us who’s boss occasionally…! This is the view across South Katoomba from the Mountain Heritage Carpark at the top of Lovel St Katoomba. Oil on Canvas / 40.5×30.5

  • Saint Mary Lake, Glacier National Park, Montana, USA. Where else would you want to be on a morning like this ? The Elk were bugling across the Lake, it was warm, the air was very still, reflections all around me, gorgeous mountains everywhere…......... / felt like I was in heaven !! / All I had to do was get down a very steep bank on the lakeside – then get back up, Help !! / Magic ! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D, mounted on tripod, polarising filter attached, f22, 1/15 sec, iso 100, auto wb, shot at 50mm on my 18-55mm lens, RAW file processed in Adobe Camera RAW, then CS3 with tweaks in levels/curves and selective colour. • Mesa Arch, Canyonlands NP, Utah, USA. Utah has an amazing landscape, there is so much to see, very photogenic with all that red rock, especially viewed against a very blue sky ! (I like it best when there are a few clouds as well though !) This Arch is reached along a rocky trail, and is very impressive, as it perfectly frames the view beyond. / We did quite a few of the trails in Canyonlands and Arches, and found the very dry going underfoot an absolute dream, since we are more used to having to play ‘dodge the bog’ here in super-wet Scotland ! Shot on Fuji Velvia, around seven years ago. I scanned it on to my PC with my Nikon Coolscan VED, and tidied up a bit of ‘dust’ in Photoshop. I also beefed up the red colour for more impact. • Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F11, shutter speed 1/15 second, ISO100, processed in Photoshop On Monday I went for a walk with the dynamic duo of Jason Connolly and Jamie Green near High Dam in the Lake District. The weather was overcast for the first hour but then we were greeted with wonderful autumnal sunshine. This is a view from Stott park overlooking the middle of Windermere. The title refers to Mr Cs annoyance that I got a shot of the bench in sunlight, when he arrived at this spot the sun would not come out….I did not hear the end of it for the rest of the walk…lol!! • North Conway, New Hampshire / Nikon D40, Nikkor VR 55-500mm lens / October 2009 “North Conway and its surrounding towns offer some of the best hiking in the White Mountain National Forest. It also features some of the best rock climbing sites on the East Coast, its gem being Cathedral Ledge in Echo Lake State Park. The 500-foot (150 m) cliff overlooks Echo Lake from the west and the Saco River and the Saco River valley in the east. Cathedral Ledge has an automobile road to the summit, which provides fine views of the Saco River Valley.” / ~ Wikepedia
