This collection of Urban Landscapes is drawn from a larger body of work called Darkscapes. They are moody evocative invitations into mystery and imagination taken from the ordinary things that make up the fabric of city life. Beauty is all around us if only we take the time to notice it. We all look but maybe we don’t all see. This collection of images is a way for me to share what I see with others / This striking Deco building is close to Hyde Park. There are not very many like it left and I am very taken with its graceful lines. / . /

A photo of some inner-city graffiti that is neither functionless nor ugly, as most graffiti is seen.
This is a not so dramatic version of “Big Smoke” Still like it for all the textures and detail in the buildings and the smoke… Please also visit my website alexkess.com and my photoblog . Cheers and Thanks,

Yes I finally got my IR filter! This is the first shot I have taken with it so far, however as I took this this morning while rushing to work, I completely forgot to take a tripod or to set the white balance so I feel quite lucky it even turned out at all.. I just wish it wasn’t so overcast so I could have captured the dark infrared sky.. Sure it isn’t the best IR shot, but I have plenty of time to learn! Thanks for looking!

Captured on a very bright sunny winter’s day in December down by the banks of the Ottawa River after a fresh snowfall. The late afternoon sun cast very long shadows that accentuated the loneliness of the park bench while also conjuring up the summer past. Taken behind Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Also appears in the calendar Reflections of the Seasons
Two things that go perfectly well together, don’t you think? This is one of my favourite places in my hometown. It’s a park alongside the St. Lawrence river with a great view on downtown Montreal, Quebec (Canada) on the other side. This was once the largest house in North County Dublin and people travelled from far and wide to be received by the owners, the Barry family. Many clues of the house still exist and the park is worth visiting to find the house foundations, front steps, tree avenue and walled garden. A small bend in the Santry River (which forms the boundary of the park today) was widened to create a small pond for the boating pleasure of Georgian ladies and gentlemen who resided at, and visited, the house. The house fell into disrepair, initially at the turn of the century as the estate proved not to be economically viable but ultimately after the Domville family departed Ireland post-independence in 1921. It came into the possession of the state, who intended to repair it and use it as a mental asylum. This plan was shelved by the start of World War II; the need to increase security around Dublin Airport meant it was used as an army depot, and part of the gardens as a firing range. There are many theories locally about what happened next but it appears as if soldiers of the Irish army caused a fire and the house was severely damaged in 1947, followed by demolition shortly afterwards. info from here at wikipedia
