It was in mid-April, the second day after I had bought the new Nikon D80 when the weather here provided a perfect sunrise morning with some mist. Nothing more quickly done in the morning than rushing with my bike towards the paradisical grounds of the country-house of Groeneveld near Baarn where I so often shoot. This beautiful stormy scene presented itself as I was overlooking the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. (If you look closely, you can see the Kissing Camels near the lower right-hand corner.) Hard to imagine it’s in the middle of a huge city. Update 20-June: Exciting news! This photo was chosen to be published in Gaia – The Living Planet, a book compiled of imagery and poetry from within the RB community. I’m so excited to receive my copy in the mail soon!

View looking up the stairwell of the Point Hicks lighthouse, Croajingolong National Park. This lighthouse is immaculate and has been well looked after. It was named after Leutenant HICKS who was the first person to site this part of Australia during Captain Cooks voyage. They continued up the East coast of Australia eventually landing at the town called Seventeen Seventy. Taken from the parking lot at Clingmans Dome,GSMNP. The mountain was named for Brigadier General Thomas Lanier Clingman, by Arnold Guyot a geographer. Clingman in the 1850’s was the first to accurately measure the height of the mountain. The mountain was called Kuwa’hi (the mulberry place) by the Cherokee. This is where the legendary great bear chief and doctor dwelled.In whose magic bath the wounded bears are restored to health…Settlers first called it Smoky Dome then later was called Mount Buckley before Guyot named it offically

First snow this year Photo made in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands – Crown Domain Het Loo Where I live, the snow didn’t stay longer than a few minutes, so I had to travel a few hours to make these pics… The public transport was all messed up because of the first winter-weather, but brought me finally into winter-wonderland… I think this journey was well worth the effort :) ... A misty morning blended with an image by Marcus Ranum in CS3. The lady’s forlorn demeanor and “all dressed up with nowhere to go” image made me think of Karen Carpenter’s song “Looking for Love…” / Though people say love is everywhere, / I’m looking for love, but it’s just not there For those interested, the background image was processed, the figure placed (which automatically gives a second layer) and blended using the opacity slider, “blend if” options in the blending mode, and erase tool. A shadow was produced with the burn tool, and light controlled on the figure with dodge, burn, and a white brush at about 5%. The blur tool was also used around any hard edges to help the figure blend into the b/g and not appear sharp and ‘dropped in’. Most of these actions were done on separate layers in order to be able to switch them on and off individually and ensure the correct effect was achieved. It also prevents ruining the whole image – if something doesn’t work, just delete that particular layer! This image of the Right Mitten framed in between two rocks shows the shadow of the Left Mitten falling across it. The Sky was doing some amazing things behind me and I noticed that most people had truned for the sunset. I steedfast remained shooting into the park. The change in colour taking place in the Valley as the sunset came closer was amazing. The right rock is slightly burned in but I am not one to play in Layers. This is a 3 image HDR given only a slight adjustment. The resulting image was then processed in CS3 with a slight adjustment to straighten the horizion and curves to add a little extra contrast.
