This will be my third one since joining Rb. Thank you everyone for all your kind and wonderful support

This morning, I had the pleasant and exciting surprise of seeing it featured in the Night Photography group. Photography is easy – or hard. Often the distinction is best recognized as we compare our intent vs. our result. I recently heard of a carpet of wildflowers in Arches National Park. Unusual circumstances allowed me to alter plans and hitch a ride by noon to try to catch what sounded to be an unusual condition of the always beautiful land. I typically do not consider driving 200+ miles to a destination unless I can have at least one day without driving. But the flowers, as reported, first hand by totally reliable source, and availability of a ready ride and company, went well with my always-ready desire to photograph beauty. So off to Moab on a calculated risk. Of course it was not much of a risk. The flowers had burst forth a week earlier amidst unusually heavy rains and flooding in Moab. I knew a week later could be “all gone” flowers or maybe even a new crop of a different variety. My most usual experience is beautiful individual flowers but never a carpet of any species in this area. Down deep, my “ace in the hole” was that I knew, even if the flowers were gone, the rocks would still be there! So really, it took me longer to write this explanation than it took to decide and pack and be on my way. For the other travelers, the purpose of the trip was to pick up a new road bike in Moab that had arrived from Italy. (The price of the bike was outrageous. I could have understood, had the purchase been a camera!) The nice part was the bike riders had just as much desire to ride early as I had to meet the sun – early. Once I had their bikes on the road, I had Arches National Park virtually to myself. It was like Arches fifty years ago! My early indications were – not any flowers – but the sun is going to make it. So I headed to the rock formations that would be beneficiaries of the low morning light. (I had exhausted the morning light before I ran out of morning-friendly structures on the last previous visit.) Heart pounding now, I hustled up the trail. No one in sight. Spectacular. Rock and sand, sky and sage, changing color by the second. Onward, will I be “there” in time? When is the best light? I don’t know exactly, but if I am not “there”, the exact time won’t matter. My biggest challenge became the battle between taking the numerous appearing light paintings or pushing on for my envisioned scene of a specific setting. Contrary perhaps to good writing, I am going to end any suspense, and tell you I was endlessly satisfied with the light opportunities this day. And yes – the carpet of flowers was no more. I could see evidence that my information had been accurate, but the flowers left when they were ready. They did not wait for me. I did enjoy some individual flowers where they had been thick a week earlier. Now back to this morning. I have yet to figure how to post multiple photos together on RedBubble, either on an image page or on a journal page. So, I guess I will need to post the four photos individually and then come back here and insert the links. If I am successful, you will find my mini-series: moods of morning Racing the sun Sun at my back Landscape Arch at high noon Sharing the land Blue sky behind arch and tree

Recently I emailed images from the local big park (Fagan Park) to Hornsby Council suggesting they would make wonderful postcards, calendars etc to promote the area, especially with a kiosk now being built near the main park entry. Today I not only was told photographs are sourced via their annual Hornsby Council photo comp (which is not widely advertised so I was unaware of it!) but that Council has a policy re photography (where have we heard this before? There must be an epidemic!) and if anyone intends to put photos up for sale, there is a ‘process’ to go through, and payment of a fee!!! So I will need to make my Fagan shots for viewing only on RB, which also means they will not be available on my bubblesite. I think it is the latter matter which distresses me more. They are a major part of my portfolio but I won’t be able to display them to bubblesite viewers. Has our society gone mad? Sometimes I wonder! Maybe we’ll need to stick to our own backyards pretty soon and not be seen in public carrying a camera!! :(( Rosalie PS Council website has, among other things, a statement saying Fagan Park is great for “Wedding ceremonies and photography” ... with NO mention of permission or fees!!! PPS I really like the following statement (which is on a similar topic) by Russell Stewart (www.potd.com.au – and I quote this with Russ’s permission!!!) Photographers are NOT automatically terrorists! / Photographers are NOT automatically paedophiles! / Photographers have the right to photograph in public places, where subjects have no reasonable expectation to privacy. / When in public, people do NOT have the right NOT to be photographed. This is the LAW!! / Photographers are the VICTIMS of uneducated law enforcement, the media and it’s misguided group of followers.

Hi, If you’re not too busy this Saturday (Oct 17th) i thought you might like to meet at Parramatta Park for a bit of a shoot. / There are rose gardens, historic buildings/monuments, cannons etc as well as parklands, the Parramatta River and the usual wildlife (ducks, herons, ibis, pigeons, bats, other bird life, lizards, skinks, water dragons, etc). Sorry about the short notice, but i guess last minute is better than nothing. I will be at The Rumsey Rose Garden to meet fellow photographers by about 9am. The Rose garden is on your left just after you come in the gates at the Pitt Street entrance. Please let me know if you will be able to make it. Kylie PS: I WILL have my two children with me but they shouldn’t be any trouble/distraction. They are usually good at helping me spot insects, lizards and other things of interest.
