Sunrise At Upper Beaver Meadows It pays to get places early, you all shoulda seen the out of state photographers come screaming around the corner in their 2 cars, slamming on the brakes, parking, and trying to lug what seemed like 200 pounds of equipment stuffed into massive LowePro bags when I was shooting this lol Anyways, this was quite a scene and one that I was pretty thrilled about capturing, the clouds just seem to skyrocket by me. This is Moose Lake, a beautiful glacial mountain lake which is in either Mt. Robson Provincial Park, or Jasper National Park, in the Canadian Rockies. I’m not actually sure which park it’s in,but it was a delightful place to take a few shots. I expected that black tumult of clouds in the near distance to come along fast and produce a downpour, which had happened a few times earlier. But it remained stable and we stayed by the lake for at least 30 or 40 minutes. By the way, it may look like I used HDR on this image, but not so. I have never used it. Our trip through the Rockies produced an amazing array of cloud and skyscapes. Sept. 4, 2009, Fuji S100FS camera. Featured in “Point and Shooters” Featured in “Northern Landscape”
Hundreds of thousands of people have taken boat tours on Maligne Lake, one of the most beautiful and world-famous places in Jasper National Park, Alberta,Canada. Watching cameras clicking at a furious rate, I was struck by how very few pointed anywhere except the lake surface and where the boat was heading. Yet all along the route there are wonderful mountain scenes that should never be ignored. I liked this one, which shows the transition from placid lake surface, heavy virgin forests, up through mysterious valleys and little streams to the gradual spread of tree-line, barren rock slopes, and then the crest of the Rocky Mountains with snow capped ridges and a river of ice flowing down between the slopes. As a extra bonus, heavy stormy clouds swept along the crests while rays of sunlight caught parts of the slopes and bathed the lower forest in light. / Sept. 4, 2009, Fuji S100FS camera.
This scene was also taken from a boat on Maligne Lake, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. The range of natural features is quite extensive. Heavy virgin forest at the lower levels, gradually becoming less and less as the slopes rise, until alpine meadows and mosses take over. Finally the mountain slopes become rock faces, some gradual, some showing much more of the forces which caused the upheaval of the sea beds millions of years ago. Finally the rough peaks of the Rocky Mountains with deep valleys and crevasses filled with a mixture of snow and hard ice. To complete the picture, storm clouds piled up on the peaks and the winds created wisps of blowing snow among the highest crags. As the boat progressed, the angle of view constantly changed, offering limitless images to be captured. / Yet we were enjoying a beautiful day, quite warm, on the pristine waters of the Lake, one of the most famous in Canada, and known the world over. I still think the wonders of the surrounding mountains go largely un-noticed by most visitors. Sept. 4,2009 / Fuji S100 FS camera
It’s been photographed countless times, and is recognized all over the world. But I had to take my own personal version of Spirit Island! The little island is at the south-west end of Maligne Lake, in Jasper National Park, Alberta,Canada. The turquoise waters indicate the lake is glacier fed, and the ranges of the Canadian Rocky Mountains surround it on all sides. From Osaka-Info Natural park (quasi-national park) of arresting scenic beauty spreading through about 100- to 600- meter high mountains in the northern part of Mino City. In the park a long gorge runs through forests from the magnificent Mino Waterfall, about 33 m high and 5 m wide, forming a habitat for 980 species of plants and over 3,000 species of insects. Located in precious natural forests in Osaka Prefecture, the park is the western starting point of the Tokai Natural Trail. Visitors can enjoy seasonal changes in the scenery, such as cherry blossoms in spring, trees covered with ice and hanging icicles in winter and especially the brilliantly colored leaves late in fall. The Mino Mountains are an ancient sacred site of Mountain Buddhism, where there are old temples, including Ryuanji Temple (otherwise known as Mino Temple), an important training center said to have been established by En-no-gyoja, the founder of Shugendo. Mino Insect Museum, which is located on the way to the waterfall, is also well known. At the museum visitors can see not only about 10,000 samples of insects, but also over 200 live butterflies of about 30 species, and learn about their year-round ecology.
