  • When photography refers to “capturing a moment” its images like this they are referring to. Taken in the Fall of 2005 at Arches National Park in Moab Utah. / While visiting the park with a friend we came to the Windows formation to get a look when a storn quickly came upon us. As we ran back to the car I caught this cloud formation swooping down over the Turret Arch I quickly lifted the camera and snapped one picture then continued to run. / I was amazed by the clouds afterwards when processing this image and found myself a lucky find of a magical moment.

  • this is Meigs Falls located in the Great Smoky Mountains. It’s a shame the last time I was able to capture this waterfall this full, was in October of 2006, in 2007 we never got enough rain to create such a full waterfall. Usually it does have water running off of it but it’s to the left of the fall. We finally got some GOOD rain last night!! A good long soaking rain!! The mountains looked alive today, was great! Updated on 06/09/09 / Im very honored to have another talented artist here be inspired by this image to write This Thank you very much Levi Cold mountain stream / Never ceasing it’s journey / Flowing ever on

  • Walking to a view point of Fox Glacier, in New Zealand, we crossed this beautiful waterfall. It is times like these, that you don’t wish to be anywhere else. Further down, we had to cross this over slippery rocks and rushing water. It is a wonder I didn’t fall in. Fox Glacier is part of the Westland Tai Poutini National Park (established 1960) which extends from the highest peaks of Kā Tiritiri o te Moana/Southern Alps to the remote beaches of the wild West Coast. It is an area of magnificent primeval vistas; snow-capped mountains, glaciers, forests, tussock grasslands, coast, lakes, rivers and wetlands. This world-class scenic landscape has been recognised as such with World Heritage status. This was taken with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera and timelapse/long exposure of 1 second, handheld (leaning on a railing).

  • Equipment used: / Nikon D70s / Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC / B&W 62mm Circular Polarisation Location: / Athabasca Falls, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada Map: / Road Map , Terrain , Satellite Copyright: / © Brendan Schoon , All rights reserved. Background Information: / This picture is taken near Athabasca Falls . Athabasca Falls in Jasper National Park is just 23 metres high. However, it is not known for its height. Instead it is known for the force of the falling water due to the quantity of water flowing. Even on a cold morning in the fall, copious amounts of water flow over the falls. A layer of hard quartzite has allowed the falls to cut into the softer limestone below carving the short gorge and a number of potholes. White water rafting often starts below the falls to travel downstream on the Athabasca River to Jasper, Alberta. It is a class 5 waterfall, with a drop of 80 ft (24 m) and a width of 60 ft (18 m). • The Ross Fountain in West Princes Street gardens with part of Edinburgh Castle (the Hospital block) in the background. Cast near Paris, France in the Durenne ironworks in the early 1860’s. It was an exhibit in the Great Exhibition in London in 1862 and was purchased for Edinburgh by Daniel Ross a local gun maker and philanthropist. After much deliberation as to what to do with it, it was finally assembled in West Princes Street Gardens in 1872. The gold coloured iron structure shows a standing naked woman at the top surrounded by four more seated naked nymphettes representing the arts, science, poetry and industry. Below the first tier are a collection of mermaids. The celebration of the naked female is typical of classical French design, but it wasn’t appreciated by everyone, Dean Ramsay (1793 – 1872) whose church, St. John’s was nearby called the fountain “grossly indecent and disgusting”. The Ross fountain is now a Category B listed structure of historic importance (HB Number 27911) under the care of Historic Scotland. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city of Edinburgh like no other castle in Scotland, and Edinburgh Castle is unequalled in the whole of the British Isles. Over one thousand years of history sit on top of the famous Edinburgh rock. In recent years there have been concerns about rocks falling from the cliffs onto the gardens below, so the rather ugly netting has been draped on the rock face. Hopefully, over time, it will weather enough to be less noticeable. Princes Street Gardens at the heart of Edinburgh’s City Centre were once a lake called Nor’ Loch. The Loch, which had been the trash dump of Edinburgh for centuries was drained in order to improve access from the New Town to the Old Town. Later, the Nor’ Loch was transformed into the beautiful Princes Street Gardens we see today. • Taken at Springbrook National Park at The Natural Bridge on the 5th of October, 2009. The following evening we came back to view the glow worms on the cave walls, it was definitely an amazing experience (minus the stupid people shining their torches straight onto the glow worms, smoking near them and using camera flash!). • Exploring the Noosa National Park along it’s coastline, is just full of hidden treasures. Eye candy, especially in the falling light of sunset.. This shot taken the same day as Noosa’s Serenity where a depleted storm cell was passing overhead. My Brother is not much of a nature buff, who admited it was spectacular sight, and glad he came with me. He is on the point, to the far right of the photo. Noosa National Park, Noosa Heads, Queensland, Australia. Canon 5D Mk II, 16mm, 16:9 crop. Available very large, and best viewed Large!
