  • The sunrises over tropical Fiji, the palms blow gently in the morning breeze. The resort pool looks inviting, jump on in.

  • Lava rock off the South coast of Maui with the light of the setting sun illuminating the clouds and rocks alike as the incoming tides surge past the rocks.

  • been reading about tribal child raising and the benefits, and we know I like birds… I began this art as abstract patterns, bubbles of pattern that transformed when I realised by putting a ‘fork in the road’ to the concentric circles, that I created an eye and beak. Before that, it could’ve been shown either way up. also, it transformed from earthy brown colours, to a colourful bird. ‘Is it art? ‘my teacher used to always question. He’s not here now. He’s just asking the question still! in my head! I like it-it’s bright, colouful and alive.

  • Paradise found…..... Was in awe at the sunsets in Northern Mariana Islands

  • As dawn breaks on a low tide revealing an incredible array of tidal sand patterns. I discover something that appears out of the ordinary – ‘against the grain…’ / I am unsure of what sort of worm or creature is the architect of this mighty fine little structure but it certainly caught my attention. / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2007 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / see more of my photography from Nth Qld below /

  • So this little known place is probably the closest I will ever get to tropical paradise. Its called Wayag, and is a group of Islands off the Western Coast of West Papua in Indonesia. Its quite a story about how I got here (i hope to write it up some time soon), but I want to pay full credits to my friend Simon Mammino for his assistance in getting this shot. Take a bow mate (and now get back to work). Nikon D200 / 10.5mm

  • A veritable seaside cauldron of stone nearly boiling over with the rising tides at sunset near Kihei with the West Maui Mountains capped by clouds in the distance.

  • The cauldron full to the brim and ready to boil over as the sun sets of the Mountains of West Maui in the Hawaiian Islands.

  • A beautiful wave crashes into the shores of Hawaii. This was an excellent day for shooting just empty waves and I managed to get quite a few dramatic looking shots, this one was my favorite from this day.

  • Adonidia Merrillii / Veitchia merrillii / Manilla Palm / Tropical Gardens of Maui Hawai’i Copyright © Sharon Mau 2009 / Ourjrny / The Heart Within the Art / All Rights Reserved “What is homing? It is the instinct to return, to go to the place we remember. It is the ability to find, whether in dark or in daylight, one’s home place. We all know how to return home. No matter how long it’s been, we find our way. we go through the night, over strange land, through tribes of strangers, without maps and asking of the odd personages we meet along the road, “What is the way?” The exact answer to “Where is home?” is more complex…. but in some way it is an eternal place, a place somewhere in time rather than space, where a woman feels of one piece. Home is where a thought or feeling can be sustained instead of being interrupted or torn away from us because something else is demanding our time and attention. And through the ages women have found myriad ways to have this, make this for themselves, even when their duties and chores were endless.” an excerpt from Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi /

  • Palm Silhouettes / Sunset Christmas Day on Maui The Adventurer “Dusk on the sea; the fading twilight shifts / The night wind bears the ocean’s whisper dim wind, on your bosom many a phantom drifts - A silver star climbs up the blue world rim. / Wind, make the green leaves dance above me here And idly swing my silken hammock – so; / Now, on that glimmering molten silver mere / Send the long ripples wavering to and fro. / And let your moon-white tresses touch my face And let me know your slim-armed, cool embrace While to my dreamy soul you whisper low. Dream – aye, I’ve dreamed since last night left her tower And now again she comes on star-soled feet. Welcome, old friend; here in this rose-gemmed bower I’ve drowsed away your Sultan’s golden heat. Here in my hammock, Time I’ve dreamed away For I have but to stretch a hand out, lo, I’m treading languorous shores of Yesterday, Moon-silvered deserts or the star-weird snow; I float o’er seas where ships are purple shells, / I hear the tinkle of the camel bells / That waft down Cairo’s streets when dawn winds blow. South Seas! I watch when dusky twilight comes Making vague gods of ancient, sea-set trees. / The world path beckons – loud the mystic drums – Here at my hand the magic golden keys / That fit the doors of Romance, / Wonder, / strange / Dim gossamer adventures; seas and stars. Why, I have roamed the far Moon Mountain range When sunset minted gold in shimmering bars. / All eager eyed I’ve sailed from ports of Spain / And watched the flashing topaz of the Main / When dawn was flinging witch fire on the spars. / I am content in dreams to roam my fill / The vagrant, drifting sport of wind and tide, / Slave of the greater freedom, venture’s thrill; / Here every magic ship on which I ride. Gold, green, blue, red, a priceless treasure trove, More wealth than ever pirate dared to dream. / My hammock swings – about the world I rove. / The sunset’s dusk, the dawning’s glide and gleam, Moon-dappled leaves are murmuring in the wind Which whispers tales. Lo, Tyre is just behind, Through seas of dawn I sail, / Romance abeam.” ~ by Robert Ervin Howard My images do not belong to the public domain and may not be reproduced in any manner whatsover without my express written authorization. / Copyright © Sharon Mau 2009 / All Rights Reserved Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi / 25 December 2008 19:25:33 / Tv Shutter Speed 1/250 / Av Aperture Value 10.0 / ISO 100 / Lens EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM / Focal Length 28.0 mm Currently with 995 Views and 1 Sale

  • Relaxing on a beach in the Cook Islands, South Pacific. The image was taken on One Foot island near Aitutaki which is part of the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. This is a coral beach not a sand beach so the feet are actually covered by tiny pieces of dead coral which gives the extremely coarse effect. The image was shot on slide film and scanned using a Nikon CoolScan III film scanner.

  • Rota Island – August 2009 / straight out of the camera / Life on this island is friendly and unhurried and the hospitality is as unforgettable as the magical sunsets. Rota Island is a natural playground with around 3000 inhabitants and is known by many to be Micronesia’s best-kept secret / Rota (Chamoru: Luta) also known as the “peaceful island”, is the southernmost island of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and the second southernmost of the Marianas Archipelago. It lies approximately 40 miles north-northeast of the United States territory of Guam. Songsong village is the largest and most populated followed by Sinapalo village (Sinapalu). In 1521, the first European to see Rota, was the lookout on Magellan’s ship Victoria, Lope Navarro. However, Magellan’s Armada of three ships didn’t stop until they reached Guam, so the first European to arrive in Rota (in 1524), was Spanish navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano, who annexed it together with the rest of the Marianas Archipelago on behalf of the Crown of Spain. Rota has diverse flora and fauna.. / Wikipedia ©2009/2010 Globalphotos All rights reserved. / All photographs, text and images by Globalphotos are the exclusive property of Globalphotos – protected under Australian and international copyright laws. / These images may not be reproduced, copied or manipulated without written permission. / No use for Public Domain. / Use of any image for another photographic concept or illustration is a violation of copyright.

  • I took this on Koh Tao island, Thailand. There were lots of these characteristic boats floating in the crystal clear shallows.

  • Sunset Polo Beach Wailea Maui Hawai’i “There is a Wisdom like a brooding Sun, / Bliss in the heart’s crypt grown fiery white, / The heart of a world in which all hearts are one, / A Silence on the mountains of delight. / A Calm that cradles Fate upon its knees; / A wide Compassion leans to embrace earth’s pain; A Witness dwells within our secrecies, / The incarnate Godhead in the body of man. / Our mind is a glimmering curtain of that Ray, / Our strength a parody of the Immortal’s power, / Our joy a dreamer on the Eternal’s way / Hunting the fugitive beauty of an hour. Only on the heart’s veiled door the word of flame Is written, / the secret and tremendous Name.” ~ poetry by Sri Aurobindo This is a composite of two images stitched one over the other, taken at the same time in the same location on a beautiful evening on Polo Beach at sunset. The luxurious golden sands on this lovely beach are bronzed with the evening light and the dramatic skies were spectacular with a wonderful view of the ‘Au’au channel and Kahalewai, West Maui.
