been reading about tribal child raising and the benefits, and we know I like birds… I began this art as abstract patterns, bubbles of pattern that transformed when I realised by putting a ‘fork in the road’ to the concentric circles, that I created an eye and beak. Before that, it could’ve been shown either way up. also, it transformed from earthy brown colours, to a colourful bird. ‘Is it art? ‘my teacher used to always question. He’s not here now. He’s just asking the question still! in my head! I like it-it’s bright, colouful and alive.

As dawn breaks on a low tide revealing an incredible array of tidal sand patterns. I discover something that appears out of the ordinary – ‘against the grain…’ / I am unsure of what sort of worm or creature is the architect of this mighty fine little structure but it certainly caught my attention. / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2007 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / see more of my photography from Nth Qld below /

A beautiful wave crashes into the shores of Hawaii. This was an excellent day for shooting just empty waves and I managed to get quite a few dramatic looking shots, this one was my favorite from this day.

When I was vacationing on Sanibel Island, Florida, the gardener at the hotel noticed me taking macro shots of the flowers and led me to the bird of paradise that was blooming in a hidden spot. He was so kind, cutting away excess foliage that was blocking the flowers and making sure I’d get clean, clear access to the blossoms. I’d like to dedicate this image to all people who treat strangers like me with kindness and concern. Thanks, Mr. Gardener, whoever you are!

Flamingos walk, and sway in peace / Seeing this, it makes my troubles cease / The sun is hiding, leaving a pink scar / That stretches right across the sky / Thats all weve seen so far / And all I do is look into your eyes For that special touch of paradise / Just a touch, a touch of paradise / Just a special touch of paradise You hold my hand, thats when we kiss / And it doesnt take long no, until I get the gist / Of this love that stretches out across the land / Where rainbows flash, as were walking in the sand / And all I do is look into your eyes A touch of spring, and autumn sweet / Well the trees vibrate when our eyes meet / And I think of all the love that we have been making / You touch my hand and I walk off shaking / And all I do is look into your eyes by Ross Wilson and G Smith / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-——- / Sunrise at Mission Beach, Far North Queensland

So this little known place is probably the closest I will ever get to tropical paradise. Its called Wayag, and is a group of Islands off the Western Coast of West Papua in Indonesia. Its quite a story about how I got here (i hope to write it up some time soon), but I want to pay full credits to my friend Simon Mammino for his assistance in getting this shot. Take a bow mate (and now get back to work).

The Bird of Paradise is an extraordinary flower, both in its vibrant colors and its unique form. The sun was shining directly on this blossom in an otherwise shady alcove and I liked the natural spotlight effect it created.

Hi’i lani Ho’okipa / Held in the Arms of Heaven Sunset Maui Hawai’i ” `Io dwelt within the breathing space of immensity. The universe was in darkness; with water everywhere, there was no glimmer of dawn, no clearness, no light. And He began by saying these words, that He might cease from being inactive: ‘Darkness, become a light possessing darkness.’ And at once Light appeared.” `Io then looked to the waters which compassed Him about and spake a forth time, saying, ‘ye Waters of Taikama, be ye separate. Heaven be formed.’ Then the sky became suspended. ‘Bring forth thou Tupuhoronuku.’ And at once the moving earth lay stretched abroad. ” (ancient chant of Ngati Kahungunu Maori)
