A bit of sunrise light over the West Maui Mountains and Lanai and a powerful sea ebbing and flowing over the rugged lava rock off the coast of Kihei. The way the ocean seemed to fold before me as I stood on rock had me in awe of the beauty of nature
A golden beach near Lahaina glowing in the light of the setting sun as a gnarled Banyan Tree appears to reach for drink in the rising tide.

A lone tree on the South coast of Maui near Lahaina seems to be in danger of being swept out to sea by the ebbing tides at sunset.
This is a B&W macro untouched of a Bird of Paradise flower ,with the sunrays going through it.

Emerald Paradise As Is… / Canon PowerShot S3 IS Rainbow Springs Florida’s third largest spring, Rainbow Springs pump 600 million gallons of water daily and serves as the head water to the pristine Rainbow River. The property was acquired by the State Park Service in 1990 and is slowly being allowed to revert to its natural state. / Beautiful floral gardens surround the spring, and the area is immensely popular in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom. The state also acquired Rainbow Springs State Campground, located nearby, which was formerly privately owned. From the campground, you can tube or canoe the crystalline waters of Rainbow River, or fish for large mouth bass and other freshwater species. / A nature trail provides a lovely walk past two waterfalls and the azalea gardens, and meanders along the Rainbow River. / /
Enthused by compassion and wisdom / Today in Buddha’s presence / I generate the mind of compassion / For the benefit of all sentient beings. / For as long as space remains / And as long as sentient beings remain / Until then may I too remain / To dispel the suffering of all beings… by Shantideva When we are surrounded by suffering everywhere in the world, we lose our sensitivity to it. Through ignorance of mind we inflict pain and suffering on others. It is important to let suffering touch us. We may look at suffering only outside ourselves and forget to look within our own country, home and self. There is a level of suffering which is part of being alive or having a body. Also, we must realize the suffering of mind. / If compassion arises out of the awareness of suffering, and if suffering is so pervasive, why then is the world not a more compassionate place? When we look at our own experience, we discover that our hearts are not open to suffering and pain. We resist it, and in that resistance we close our hearts to compassion. If compassion is to arise, we must open to pain and allow it to enter in. But we allow our lives to be conditioned to the avoidance of pain and emotions analogous to physical pain, such as loneliness. Our lives are fragmented when we are not willing to embrace the shadow side of pain and suffering. We must learn to be compassionate, open to such feelings. This is essential if we are to come to wholeness. The more we resist, the more we feed what we resist. / What prevents us from being open? The basic ignorance of thinking, acting and believing that happiness can be found if we amass the right pleasures. We have all experienced many pleasant things in life, but have they brought us happiness? There is nothing wrong in pleasant experiences. It is the craving that is wrong. The craving mind seeks pleasant feelings; but feelings come and go; they are never really satisfying. This creates an endless cycle. The very cycle of craving is the cause of suffering. Craving says that we are not complete… / if you have time, please enjoy Phil Collins’ Another Day…
Relaxing on a beach in the Cook Islands, South Pacific. The image was taken on One Foot island near Aitutaki which is part of the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. This is a coral beach not a sand beach so the feet are actually covered by tiny pieces of dead coral which gives the extremely coarse effect. The image was shot on slide film and scanned using a Nikon CoolScan III film scanner.

3200 ISO is a brave new world for me. As a self confessed low ISO junkie, one who used Ektar 25 film whenever and wherever he could for many years because I wanted tight grain, the tighter the better, I would pull out all the stops I could to use that amazing ISO 25 film! For sure I’d never gone above ISO 1000 and then only to shoot indoor sporting events. Low ISO was(?) a hang-up for me! But I wanted to try astral photography and high ISO can get you there! However as we all know high ISO leads to increased noise which is something fairly new to me. You can use software and Photoshop plugins but I’ve been considering, one way to control noise would be to minimize or eliminate it by keeping the ISO as low as possible and that’s one way I‘m leaning. So in that regard it looks like a fast 50 prime is in order! It’s fun to be experimenting and learning, eh! Camera Model Canon EOS 50D / Tv( Shutter Speed ) 30 / Av( Aperture Value ) 3.5 / ISO Speed 3200 / Focal Length 18.0mm / Flash at 1/16 power and about 12 or 13 paper towels for diffusion. “One Night Under the Milky Way” was shot at Flamber Head on Newfoundland’s East Coast Trail For more information please visit Brian’s Homepage or on Flickr

Rota Island – August 2009 / straight out of the camera / Life on this island is friendly and unhurried and the hospitality is as unforgettable as the magical sunsets. Rota Island is a natural playground with around 3000 inhabitants and is known by many to be Micronesia’s best-kept secret / Rota (Chamoru: Luta) also known as the “peaceful island”, is the southernmost island of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and the second southernmost of the Marianas Archipelago. It lies approximately 40 miles north-northeast of the United States territory of Guam. Songsong village is the largest and most populated followed by Sinapalo village (Sinapalu). In 1521, the first European to see Rota, was the lookout on Magellan’s ship Victoria, Lope Navarro. However, Magellan’s Armada of three ships didn’t stop until they reached Guam, so the first European to arrive in Rota (in 1524), was Spanish navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano, who annexed it together with the rest of the Marianas Archipelago on behalf of the Crown of Spain. Rota has diverse flora and fauna.. / Wikipedia ©2009/2010 Globalphotos All rights reserved. / All photographs, text and images by Globalphotos are the exclusive property of Globalphotos – protected under Australian and international copyright laws. / These images may not be reproduced, copied or manipulated without written permission. / No use for Public Domain. / Use of any image for another photographic concept or illustration is a violation of copyright.
