Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there :o)
Here are my boys and hubby checking out the clouds before a storm.
Ah… that’s a peacock feather by the way. : )
Bear in old row boat by pond.
Live from Weedy Field, this is Papa before he became Papa Three-foot. (He lost a rear foot somewhere and was looking for it quite a long time before giving up, returning to see me). He’s standing in front of Lizzy’s Home, western the planter on the northern side of the field. Lizzy wasn’t home or one of them would have had a rather interesting reaction since alligator lizards and tree squirrels aren’t usually ‘bosom buddies’. A few images of Lizzy and her mates may be up and about soon but there will always be more of Papa and JJ, the most interactive creatures in Weedy Field. Also, there’s a calendar of the Weedy Field folks in my calendars section. :-)
12” x 9” watercolour on coldpress watercolour paper. Meet my two granddaughters, Sarah and Stephenie. Pa-Pa is what they call me (that’s pronounced Paw-Paw.) After raising nothing but rough and rowdy boys, you can only imagine what it’s like to have two prissy little girls. They are truly a joy and blessing to my heart, and can work me like a puppet.
We all noticed it – it was a little weird. Poor smurfette… jL
Daddy Bluebird took some time off this afternoon and let Mama do the hunting. He spent a long while just sitting on a branch, looking at his surroundings, and striking one impressive pose after another. He was quite the show-off.
This male Eastern bluebird was keeping a very sharp outlook near the nesting box. While Mama hunted and fed the babies, he was looking intently at his surroundings, chasing away squirrels and making sure nothing came near his babies. I love to watch him watching the skies, the ground, and everything in between. He’s got eyes like a little hawk! I know he sees me in hiding, but he’s gotten used to me now and pretty much tolerates my presence so long as I don’t make any abrupt movements. Today, I talked to him, and he cocked his tiny head in my direction, curious about the being behind the camouflage curtains.

From a photography of my Dad dating back 1950 while he was in West Africa. I’ve tried to capture his favourite pastime on his boat : regating with some of his friends..

A semi-companion piece to Mama’s Hands, this shot was taken a long time before the other but it was yet another victim of the “80,000+ Combined Shots Syndrome”: so many folders, so many days, so many interruptions, so many etc. LOL! I haven’t a clue if there are tons of better shots saved in over 500GB of storage between three computers, scores of DVD’s and CD’s, flash drives, xD cards, SD cards, BFD cards… (sigh) Oh well, when I die, someone is going to have to do a LOT of deleting and/or reformatting to be able to store much more than a 12kb smilie anywhere! By the way, Papa has become very comfortable with many of the rest of my co-workers. He comes to their calls, waits for them to get MY peanuts (since they don’t think to get any), and generally asks as tho everyone is his friend now. LOL! The strange part is that almost all of the rest of Weedy Field is branching out as well: Jill allows herself to be seen by others; JJ’s kids come out and beg everyone for peanuts; and best of all, the Crows Family is learning how to trust people enough to get their peanuts before the jays snatch them all away. That’s BIG because they are still feeding their HUMONGOUS “baby” who’s too…uh, chicken to do much more than holler for dad & mom when he see’s us outside. If you ever want to see a disgusted look on a bird, check out a crow who’s trying to open a peanut (while standing over two others) to feed a kid as big as he is while fearless blue jays snatch everything in sight before he can even get a TASTE of one! Crows can actually frown somehow, like furrowing their feathers or something. Anyway, I’ve vowed to start mining my archives… next year. ;-) / __________ / Nikon D80 data~~ / F/5.6 / Exposure 1/160, / ISO-100 / 70-300 mm telephoto (handheld) / Metering: spot

Any profits from the sale of this picture or tee shirt are dedicated to the the Australian wildlife relief fund, dating from the terrible fires in Victoria. The crow is perching on my large birdbath, peering in my window, demanding goodies from us, inside. / This guy spent the summer of 08 bothering the outside cats, chasing the squirrel around and around its own tree, trying to sneak up on the neighbor’s dogs when they slept, and generally caused riot and ruin in our quiet, country neighborhood. To the crow’s credit, it didn’t start this nonsense until its two children were fairly self-sufficient. / In September, just before the noisy crow rookery mob move south and our winter sets in, the mama of this pair made her two children take complete baths, one at a time, in our large birdbath, making sure each ducked its head all the way under, and that it rocked sideways on its belly in the water so its wing-pits were washed. Papa had to help with the second youngster, who did not want to duck its head. He had it fly down to him, talked with it quietly a minute, and then it went back and bathed properly. The next day the chidren, though still showing some baby-yellow at the corners of their beaks, left on the flight south with everybody else. Then it became too quiet, the squirrel collected nuts without being disturbed, and I missed the crows terribly. / CROWS ARE: / Country folk, devoted parents, mischief-makers, cat chasers, bread-snatchers, dogs’ eyelash pullers, and when you listen to them, you realize that crows actually sound like ducks. /
Rollerball on 100gsm A5 cartridge paper. The Maori people were the original settlers of Aotearoa (New Zealand). Their culture and history is rich and beautiful, and to this day is an important part of New Zealand’s culture. Their legends around the creation of the world and this beautiful land have always captured my imagination. This is my version of the Maori legend of Ranginui, the Sky God, and Papatuanuku, the Earth Mother. Together in each other’s embrace, no light could penetrate the world, no life could flourish. In order to bring light and life to the world, one of their sons, Tane Mahuta, God of the Forests, planted his feet on his mother, Papatuanuku, braced his shoulders against his father, Ranginui, and strained until he forced them apart, thus allowing light into the world. (This is a much abridged version of the legend, for the full – amazing! – story please visit Maori Mythology and History) / In my version, the tree represents Tane Mahuta, while Papa’s hair is the ocean and Rangi’s hair forms the clouds. Unfortunately Ranginui’s moko (facial tattoos) combined with Tane’s branches make his face a little hard to discern, but full view helps! :) / Hope you like this, thanks for looking! :) 500+ Viewings Group: 1174 views at time of submission. This Russian Grizzly resides at the DeYoung Family Zoo in Michigan. I had the opportunity…I guess you could call it that…to stand less than 2 feet away from this fella and feel the warmth of his breath as he breathed and spit on me. Thankfully there was a wire fence between us. Yes I said wire, not steel, wire. What an experience!! Please View Larger

Here is a re-worked image of my little girl and my husband which was on RB a while ago.. I keep coming back to it so finally decided to play with it and here it is… I originally had this image in colour but got some great advice from a fellow bubbler to try it in b&w so I did…... This image was taken when my little girl fell over on the rocks and hurt her knees and her daddy gave her a piggy back to the car before the storm came.
