The pansy or pansy violets are a large group of hybrid plants cultivated as garden flowers. Pansies are derived from Viola species Viola tricolor hybridized with other viola species, these hybrids are referred to as Viola × wittrockiana or less commonly Viola tricolor hortensis. The name “pansy” also appears as part of the common name for other Viola species that are wildflowers in Europe. Some unrelated species, such as the Pansy Monkeyflower, also have “pansy” in their name. / Wikipedia / Panasonic FZ20

Where I live in Southern Oregon, we are lucky enough to have pansies bloom, in the winter and spring. If they are in a sheltered place, they also like to bloom in the summer. What a feeling of joy to see all of these beautiful little faces watching you as you go by on your way to the garbage can. When you spy them, your mind leaves the garbage behind and you can’t help but smile, for in a world full of garbage, there near your back door, is a carpet of joy! Orton effect applied:
I just love pansies, they are so coloring and happy looking flowers. These are some of the plants we bought this year.
