Just want to know whether you guys add in any watermark (signature, name), on file images that are up for sale? Also whether you create any canvas on the image, or having them through on full size with no canvas at all? I’m interested to know, as my previous works that i’ve edited, I added the canvas in CS. When I upload in RB, I’ve reworked some of my image (not all; probably only 1 to date), to exclude the canvas as well as watermark (signature/name, and copyright logo). Hmmm … does RB provide any panoramic size printing? Has anyone sell/buy this format before? Thanks. Regards, / Sidqie

  • I started stitching digital images when i was still shooting films, i just needed to scan my slides and was able to produce nice panoramic images with a 24×36 (or 6×7) camera. I switched to digital shooting in the 2000 and continued to create some stitched panos. / With my firsts digital cameras, i also used my stitching tools and skills to produce some files with a better definition than the native camera ones… In these years, stitching softwares where not so friendly and powerful. I was using a home made spherical pano head and often stitched manually. Today i still love stitching images to create panos or very hi def files. / The one above was produced with 9 NEF files from a Nikon D200. / Files were converted to 48 bits TIF with SilkyPix and then stitched using PTGui. / I just had to crop the resulting file to obtain a 30 mega pixels files with a 5×4 aspect ratio. With these technics i can dream i work with a large format camera and a digital back but the D200 is more easy to carry in the waterfalls. Some tips - If you can use a rigid QTVR pano head. / - Use your camera in manual exposure mode. / - Think about the focus and DOF things to avoid blurred areas. / - Learn to decompose the shot in different frames and to view (imagine) it before setting up tripod, head, and camera.

I uploaded the first really big panorama that I took back in March 2006 to gigapan.org. It only weighs in at 0.2 gigapixels, which is small compared to some others on the site, but is still good for a jolly ol’ armchair exploring session (cheaper than another airline ticket, at least). Check it out />http://gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=604 and see what you can find! I’m wondering what the maximum advised pixel size is for uploading such an image for a large print on redbubble, keeping in mind the 20Mb maximum file size and 24 inch longest edge . At 300dpi, a 24 inch wide panorama would require 7200 pixels across, less than 1/3 the size of the original. :)

Thanks for your wonderful comments. I have only been on Redbubble for less than two weeks. The reaction to my “By Request” photo has been fantastic. I have decided to make a series of four photos that I took on the same scene. The other photos are “Luna Over Luna Park”, “Luna Harbour”, and “Luna PANORAMA”. The photos were taken in quite quick succession. One photo is in Portrait, two are in Landscape, and one PANORAMA. It’s amazing how a similar subject can be photographed in slightly different ways, and produce different results. I will interested in knowing which of the four is you favourite ! Ciao / Gino

Had a trip out to the Lake District yesterday and it gave me the perfect opportunity to experiment at making a few panoramas. I managed to get three in total. They were stitched together perfectly by CS3 and required only a little adjusting. If you have the time pop over and comment. Be honest…....

I returned to active photography today after a 3 month break, despite what I said in my last journal entry. I am working on a new mini-series to be exhibited at the end of the year and I’ve decided to try something that I don’t normally do, which is black and white photography. As you will see in my gallery, I have added a new piece today titled ‘Winter Skies’ which was wonderful to start with. I can’t wait to get out and shoot some more in the coming weeks.
