Morning rainbow, Jokulsarlon, Iceland Iceland / Belgium / Italy / France / Hungary / Spain / Sri Lanka / USA / London / Portraits / Other Jokulsarlon is a glacial lake that meets the sea in Iceland. One of the most beautiful places i have been on our little planet Earth. The tragedy is that this beautiful photo would not be possible without global warming. When in a cafe at a petrol station i saw a postcard of Jokulsarlon. One single large iceberg floating in the centre. As you can see now the lake is full. Note: The size if this work was increased using Photoshop CS2. / Best size being around the 50cm wide.

This small rock pool is found in Cabbage Tree Bay, along the pathway between Manly and Shelly Beach on Sydney’s northern beaches. The sculpture/statue is known as The Oceanids. This image was a 30 second exposure nearly an hour before sunrise with the pool wall and sculpture lit up by a nearby street light. This image has also won a photo of the week at photographer Steve Parish’s Photograph Australia website.

Tommy’s Joynt is a traditional diner in San Francisco. I thought it was a great place to get a hamburger and a beer in surroundings with far more colour and atmosphere than any fast food chain could ever manage.

On a moody Spring evening, dense but scattered clouds roll across the bay threatening to open up and pour on anything that falls their path. The setting sun casts its light across the clouds making them glow in a way that makes them appear to be on fire. The stunning colour of the sand comes up through the shallow water in unusual blues and greens while at the same time mixing with the oranges and reds of the sky.

This image was taken @ Port Willunga at the remains of the old jetty. On a recent journey back to Port Willunga recently, I’d noticed that many of these posts had been burnt. Sukurajima is an active volcano in the south of Japan near the city of Kagoshima. While it was not active when we were there it has been active in recent years – last erupting in February 2000. Best placed of a black background.

BEST VIEWED LARGE* This shot was taken at dawn on Thursday 10th April 2008, the vantage point was Blues Point looking east. The lens used was a Sigma 10-20mm lens i reccomend it as its not very expensive but comes in very handy. The camera used a Nikon D300, the black and white conveersion was done using Capture NX, there was also some straightening of the horizon and sharpening., but not much else. For those visiting Sydney the areas around McMahons Point and Blues Point on the Nothern side of the Harbour are good photo opportunity points, they can be acessed from Circular Quay by ferry This work is also available in colour

From the high plains to the deserts – the Eucalyptus is botanically iconic to Australia. With over 700 species ranging from stunted shrubs in the arid regions to the tallest flowering plant on the planet, their diversity is as grand as their stature. Most species are not frost or cold tolerant (temps down to -5C) though there is one species that lives in the alps of the mainland affectionately known as the ’snow gum’. (Eucalyptus pauciflora ). Whilst three other cold tolerant species exist in the highlands of central Tasmania. Growing as woodlands or open woodlands from 1300m-1800m ASL in Tasmania,Victoria and New South Wales where they form the altitudinal limit of the tree line. The ’snow gum’ can become a gnarled old warrior as it eeks out an existance in poor soil with short growing seasons in harsh climates. Sometimes shedding bark revealing bright green,yellow or even orange-red under bark. It certainly makes for a brilliant dash of colour particularly in the snow. When in these alpine regions I often find it hard not to get ‘lost’ in their beauty and character and always find myself searching for those special individuals. Specimans with so much character that they speak for themselves. Taken, 16/11/2008 at Dicky’s Beach / just as the storm was coming it… / there were to separate cells, the first one was like a wave, layered and the second one came in under it with layers and rolling clouds! it was unbelievably stunning! / The green sky in the background was the key indicator to us that there was hail down south of us….glad we missed it! After visiting the beautiful Cambewarra Lookout in the Morton National Park south of Sydney, you can meander down the mountain towards Nowra and this is the type of panoramic scenery you will find … Smoke haze is evident here from the bushfires further into the Morton National Park at the time.
