  • The main streets of Cairo become a hive of activity in anticipation for the celebrations at the end of Ramadan.

  • this is my favourite one While this is a posed photo, I love the difference in comfort levels. It is still a photo of real people, in the moment. The guy in the photo had never modelled before. The girl had. It was near pitch black before I took each shot. [I had to bounce the flash off a hand mirror-(and shut my eyes as I clicked) because I used fixed flash.] so they had to hold the pose in the dark and somehow appear natural! This poor guy-he hardly knew this girl and was hesitant to touch her. You can tell she is loving it. I had to show him where to put his hand. You can see the tentative nature of the placement. (Am I dong it right?) It is a study in human body language to me!

  • What if Albert had miscalculated on something simple? :)

  • “The warning came too late…..no place to hide. We were down by the beach taking happy holiday snaps when the ocean started to recede. It took me a moment or two to realise what was about to happen. Everyone started to panic…..I could hardly hold a thought in my head with the sound of my heart beating and the adrenalin pumping through my veins. Then I remembered the cave we discovered at the end of the beach yesterday. That would be our only hope as we started to run. As we entered the cave I took one last look as the Tsunami hit….” Macro photograph taken from a palm tree, overcast day, camera set on aperture priority. Macro photography of bark, rocks and flowers are my passion. Always looking for that special ‘something’ thats a little bit different. Hope you enjoy my story and photograph!

  • The Nine Pillars- an addition to Arawn’s Realm. The gates of Annwn open to few who find them…unto the glorious corridors of this place. This piece was actually inspired by a self-hypnosis programme called The Nine Pillars. My gran, after a heart attack, began to suffer depression and panic attacks. For months she remained in the same state, until she discovered The Nine Pillars. Literally within 2 or 3 weeks my old gran was back :-) I’d missed her!!

  • Could be seen as a companion image to Crossing the Ravine, or something different entirely.

  • is swiftly followed by panic in most cases…

  • Panic attacks are unexpected, isolated periods of intense anxiety, fear and distress that are associated with a range of somatic and cognitive symptoms. The onset of these episodes is usually sudden, and may have no apparent start. Although these episodes may appear accidental, they are considered to be a subset of an evolutionary comeback commonly referred to as fight or flight that happen out of context, flooding the body with hormones as particularly adrenalin, that aid in defending itself from harm. The panic attack is different from other forms of anxiety by its concentration and its unexpected, episodic nature. / Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is the term for an acute and continuing emotional reaction to an excessive psychological trauma. The latter may involve someone’s real death or a threat to the patient’s or someone else’s life, serious physical injury, or threat to physical and/or psychological uprightness. It is important to make a difference between PTSD and Traumatic stress, which is an alike condition, but of less intensity and length. Hysteria was also related to “traumatic reminiscences” a century ago. At that time, Sigmund Freud’s pupil, Kardiner, was the first to portray what later became known as symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. Stress is often defined as the reaction to a situation that threatens the balance or homeostasis of a system.

  • subtitle: phobic.. in this particular case.. agoraphobic. which actually means fear of open places.. however, ‘open places’ is a wide and rather spongy expression.. as in my case, open place was anything outside my bedroom.. not even my bedroom offered full protection but it was the safest. so .. a phobia.. fear.. can turn normal ordinary things into something to be afraid of. a normal staircase becomes something totally threatening. your mind plays tricks on you.. twists and turns those stairs, makes them dangerous looking, unsafe.. you just KNOW you will never make it up or down those stairs.. death awaits you. i would just like to mention that i suffered from this agoraphobia a long time ago… and i got over it. it took me many years and hard work but i have managed to overcome it ! stairs is a photomanipulation done in PSP X. all stock, background, textures are mine. please view in large view.

  • Another image using the same technique as in this series. Please have a look LARGE for a better view of the graininess of this image – thanks :)
