“Shimmer” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © The Australian Sunrise / “The Morning Star paled slowly, the Cross hung / low to the sea, / And down the shadowy reaches the tide came / swirling free, / The lustrous purple blackness of the soft / Australian night, / Waned in the grey awakening that heralded / the light; / Still in the dying darkness, still in the forest dim, / The pearly dew of the dawning clung to each / giant limb, / Till the sun came up from ocean, red with the / cold sea mist, / And smote on the limestone ridges, and the / shining tree-tops kissed; / Then the fiery Scorpion vanished, the magpie’s / note was heard, And the wind in the sheoak / wavered and the honeysuckles stirred; / The airy golden vapour rose from the river breast, / The kingfisher came darting out of his / crannied nest, / And the bullrushes and reed-beds put off their / sallow grey / And burnt with cloudy crimson at the dawning / of the day.” / ~James Lister Cuthbertson See “Shimmer” at my website /

Sunset in Negril, Jamaica. This whole trip for me was about learning how to compose my images. This one in particular I focused on the sun being framed between the palm trees. Taken with the “foliage” setting on my camera with just a little boost with color in digital editing to enhance it.

California Sunset By RD Riccoboni. This painting of a orange yellow sunset along Coast Boulevard in La Jolla California is offsett by sleek silhouettes of Mexican Fan Palms that line the street at Ellen Scripps Browning Park. See more of the artist’s San Diego work like this RD “Randy” Riccoboni is an insightful, American born artist (California, 1960) influenced by a plethora of sights, sounds, surprising colors, textures and emotion ranging from traditional to modern. This self-taught artist acquired his drive and inspiration from encouragement given him by family, friends and public school teachers. Riccoboni’s profound love for art and architecture and history are evidenced in his paintings and drawings. Riccoboni’s landscape and cityscape jump with vivid fields of color and powerful composition and his portrait artwork captures the essence of a person’s spirit, the love given from animals in surprising color. When I painted this I thought, The sky is the limit when we follow the road of happy destiny – RD Riccoboni Keep an eye for this painting…it will soon be seen in lots of places! RD Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. – Marianne Williamson, from her book Return to Love – Used in a Speech by Nelson Mandella.
