After a very long winter (so far) I needed something that sang Spring time is just around the corner! After a lot of fuss, and several hours, in Photoshop and Painter X this is the final result. Every pixel of this piece was re-painted (digitally) by hand. All of the apple blossoms and leaves were created from scratch. As a final touch I added some texture to the piece to give it that last little edge I was looking for. Featured in The Birds – Feb. 15, 2009 / I can almost feel it. Spring is JUST around the corner. It’s such an exciting time in Canada after a long and cold winter. The lilac trees bloom putting forth the sweetest scent and the hummingbirds return to our property after a long migration. Yes, Spring will be here before we know it. I can’t wait! I spent countless HOURS last summer, sitting in a lawn chair, ever so patiently waiting to try & capture one of these little darlings in flight. They are only 7-9 cm long. While hovering their wings beat 55x/s, 61x/s when moving backwards, and at least 75x/s when moving forward! / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / Processing info: / This image started out with 3 photograph layers (the lilac background image, a female ruby-throated hummingbird, and the tail from a different photo of the same bird). I took all of the original images with my Canon DSLR. After removing the background around the original bird photos I merged all of the layers in PhotoShop. I digitally painted/blended the entire image in Corel Painter X using the Impasto Depth Smear brush at 30% opacity. I cloned out a distracting branch in the upper left corner and performed blend # 2 work on the main lilac blooms, hummingbird, and the largest leaves using grainy blender 10 brush at 38% opacity. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / Bird Gallery / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST

Featured in – The Birds, February 7, 2009 I can’t help but dream of summer, and much warmer temperatures, when I look at this image. This piece consists of 6 layers (the background, 5 different layers of pretty lavender blooms, and an adorable little american goldfinch). After merging all of the layers in PhotoShop I digitally painted the entire piece in Corel Painter X. This art started out as a photograph of a black-capped chickadee sitting on a cedar tree branch in the woods behind our home. (See original image below). / After several hours in Photoshop and Painter X this is the final result. Every pixel of this piece was re-painted (digitally) by hand to give the image a painted look. Featured in Animal Portraits and Cats & Dogs – March 11, 2009 and in Paws n Claws June 2009. I took the original photo of my friend’s dog last summer with my Canon DSLR at a campsite in Ontario. I really liked the image but wanted to kick it up a notch :) I redid the entire image in Corel Painter starting with a gentle watercolor blend of the background. I then repainted the entire collar, cloned out some distractions and gave it a vibrant and new red tone. Every single piece of hair on the dog was then painted & blended with watercolor and airbrushes. A BEFORE & AFTER view can be seen in my comment section / Black & White Version / / Pet Portraits /

Part of a 3 piece set Featured in Digital Brushstrokes April 10, 2009 & Digital Art Compilations – April 11, 2009 This piece involves 4 layers (including 2 subtle texture layers) and started off as a photograph of a white daisy being hugged by a wooden tendril. The background was from a handpainted sample board I applied a faux finish technique to. Revised Mar. 10/09 – added a bit more contrast to the image and darkened the shadows more. This is a monochrome portrait painting of my darling little girl. I decided to do a little bit of selective coloring and left the eyes their original color. This image consists of 2 layers. The background, which I created myself in Corel Painter – and the portrait. When I’m out on my nature walks I love to look at unique formations in leaves, trees, and especially tendrils. As soon as I saw these 2 joined tendrils I immediately knew I would call this piece Tendril Salsa. To me, it looks like a man and woman dancing.
