I have been wanting to do some grungy painting/collage bill poster type artwork of late with some of the images i have been creating for my T-Shirt designs here on RB. Here is my design, ‘Roadmap to Peace’ as a tee. Here is my first experiment taking a image back onto a canvas or rather a board in this case. / 60×60cm, Mixed Media on board. / Yes the animated Gif is a bit dodgy…but it basically shows you how i made it! ;) What do you think? / Remember its only the first one and i haven’t played with paint in about two years.Be gentle with me. / Cheers, / G

Hey everyone!! The wonderfully creative Jo O’Brien has just begun a chain of interviews to bring all of us closer to some of our favorite artists!! The first ball was given to MuscularTeeth who interviewed the famous Karin Taylor and Butchart. Karin then proceed to interview me and Mui-Ling !! What an honor!! Yay!! So now presenting Midori Furze!!! ....................................................................................................................................................... How does being a creative person and pursuing your creativity affect other aspect of your life? I carry a timer set up as an alarm clock. / When I am in the mode of creativity I often forget the time, so I set the timer for whenever my next important time will be e.g. picking up children, start cooking dinner or phone call someone. / When the bell goes, I switch myself and remember where I am and do what I’m suppose to do so I can manage my days on this planet. / I also have a diary which tells me what I must do on that day. / If the diary has a blank space, I smile and go straight to my studio and stay there all day but these days I always have something on it. : ((( / I am lucky to have a husband who accepts me as I am. I hope he does. / He might believe that it’s normal because I am Japanese. Hehehe… / By the way I thought he was a bit different from others but I liked him as he is and I thought “Well… he is an unusual guy. I guess because he is an Australian!!” After we moved to Australia I realised he IS a unique, even from others in Australia. Tell us about one person or moment that has made your time on redbubble particularly special or meaningful I am a great fan of Karin Taylor and Frozenfa. I know many wonderful people on Red Bubble and I love them too, but Karin and fa are soooooooooooooo special to me. / They are special to many people on RB and I am proud I know them too. / Oh, it has to be one person? / OK then, that will be TIM ( the Twisted Inner Monster is a Frozenfa’s creation). / I know he isn’t really a person, but I think he is close enough. / He makes me smile. / He makes me laugh. / Hug~! Show & tell us about five works on redbubble that have moved or inspired you I have been on RB for 6 months, and I have met a lot of wonderful people and seen great artworks. It is very difficult to choose only 5 works. Can I put 50? No? Oh, it is soooooooooooooo tough!! OK, here it is… / The Band! by Ellen / Ron Carter 02 by Jean M. Laffita / Shoreline by kafka / Dead Friends 5 by John Douglas / Imaginary Life 2007 by Paul Ruiz If you see their works, you will understand why I choose them!! / I’m also inspired by these lovely people and their works, – hahpistuff, Ken Mucke, Tine Wiggens, yanmos, Matt Tworkowski, vladstudio, girlinthestars, Cailean, Ronald wigman and of course Karin Taylor and Frozenfa. Sorry I can’t mention all of you. : ((( / Thank you for reading. / Lots of loooooooove and a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig hug! ....................................................................................................................................................... Thank you SO SO much for your time and effort, Midori!!!! Thanks for letting me do this interview with you! Hugs!! XD / Tim: Am NOT SQUEALING!! squeal!!! oooh i’d so glomp Midori-sama!!! XD

I thought I’d share some arty ideas which you might like to try. / The first is to start an ‘Art Treasure Box’. You need a strong box, ideally shoebox size. / Decorate it …make it yours, a pleasure to get out and rummage through. / The idea of this box is that it will contain small items chosen by you to inspire you to draw or paint them. / You need a vast assortment of things to make this fun and interesting. I brainstorm some possibles suggestions below: Shells, stones, feathers, nails, screws, buttons, old wire spectacles, a fir cone, walnut, peg, thimble, a metal whistle, marbles, a wrapped chocolate or sweet (candy), bones, a matchbox, old brooches, a piece of driftwood, plastic cracker novelties, sunglasses, small plastic toys/tin toys, origami paper figure, a playing card, tiny glass bottle, small picture frame, old watch, cheap jewelry, string of pearls, a pencil sharpener, plastic flower, a small piece of patchwork cloth, a piece of lace, small plastic doll, a small leather glove, a silk tie, a candle etc… The list is endless. The idea is to observe carefully these small things which sometimes can be overlooked and make a small painting or drawing of them, postcard size. Feel their texture with your fingers, smell them and look at their colour, the way the light reflects off them and the shadows they cast when placed on different surfaces. All these observations are precious. Try using different mediums to capture them: pencil, pen and ink, paint, wax crayon, coloured pencil, felt tip pens, ballpoint pen, pastel, charcoal. Try drawing them different sizes, lifesize, large…in different positions…make several studies of one item from various angles. Do a 2 minute sketch, 5 minute sketch…an half hour detailed drawing/painting. Paint or draw them on to different coloured surfaces of paper, card, or canvas. Add to your treasure box when you find sometime of interest on a walk in the street, wood or beach. Perhaps you find something in an opportunity shop that takes your eye. Maybe you have a precious keepsake given by a loved one. You don’t have to be rich to do this, just LOOK around you to collect the items. When you are stumped as to what to draw…go to your treasure box and become inspired. / This exercise will train your eyes to observe, find beauty in the smallest of objects. / Equally you could use a similar box as a story starter for creative writing. ~ Anni :) Have fun creating

I am really pleased when a Canvas Print sells, and this was an extra large Canvas print…RB does such a fabulous job reproducing the brush strokes, it almost tactile… / This painting is one of my particular favourites, as there are so many different textured layers, including lots of metallics…I drew extensively on my imagination here and Blake’s verse says it all.. / The Trees…Imagination The tree which moves some to tears of joy, is in the eyes of others, only a green thing that stands in the way. / Some see Nature all ridicule and deformity, and some scarce see Nature at all. / But to the eyes of the man of imagination, Nature is Imagination itself. Thank you so much

It has been an exciting week since I took the plunge to become a full-time artist. Here’s a special little story regarding “Starburst Pony” / & Skyhorse’s lovely Appaloosas. I received an email from a winery in Texas USA requesting the use of / “Starburst Pony” on the wine label they will be releasing for their new / wine as they had seen the image on the internet. I contacted the winery to find out more & as a result I can now say that the original painting / of “Starburst Pony” is also on its way to Texas to hang in pride of / place at the winery. I’m so excited I can’t believe it. Once all the final details are in place I will upload a pic of the label & / I have to say it is a stunner – very bright & eye catching. “Starburst Pony” is on the front with the winery’s name & the name of their new wine, made / from a Texas white Zinfandel grape, & a Texas star there as well - / which will be released by Thanksgiving this year. My name, / artist profile & website address will be on the label on the / back of the bottle. This is a new winery which has just opened this / month. The winery have since invited me to visit there, should I be travelling to / Texas in the near future & will do an event featuring me & the artwork. / I haven’t had time to let my feet touch the ground yet! How the painting of “Starburst Pony” came about is an unusual one. / It was the same day Skyhorse’s lovely Appaloosa mare had her / horrific accident with a star picket impaled into her chest, November / 2008. / I had been working on an oil commission all day & packed up the / oils, just wanting to paint a couple of little acrylics to take to the gallery / at Bellingen two days later. Since a couple of the “Painted Ponies” / series had already sold from there, I decided to do two small ones. / But one was going to be an Appaloosa horse & my inspiration for / the painting was her lovely leopard mare “Harli” who had just foaled / a lovely blanket filly “Elle” with a love heart on her rump. I uploaded the painting on to RB, knowing Skyhorse would love it. / This was the first Appaloosa “Painted Pony” I had done – the name / was from Appaloosas often being called starburst horses. When I read about Harli’s tragic accident I could not believe it. She / was in a serious way & had a very young foal at foot. We were all / devastated to hear of her near fatal injury & everyone sent their best / wishes & prayers to Skyhorse, hoping that Harli pulled through. She did thankfully, & I sent Skyhorse the card of “Starburst Pony” / to hopefully cheer her up. I know what it’s like when your beloved / horse has a serious injury or is sick. It is an extremely stressful / time, not to mention lack of sleep. After picking up the little painting from the gallery when it closed / down I exhibited it, but no one bought it so “Starburst Pony” has / been at home here, as I decided to keep it, along with the other / one I painted on the same day “Rainbow Pony.” But it was not / meant to be….....there were bigger & better things that the Universe / had planned for this little miniature, it’s off to Texas to be proudly displayed in it’s new home. So thank you to Skyhorse for the inspiration of her beautiful horses, / to Harli & Elle…...... / & I only just realised a couple of days ago that Harli’s love heart / is almost in the same spot where “Starburst Pony’s” is…......blew / me away. An added note: Harli is expecting another foal in October 2009 & we / have come up with a couple of special names for the foal, but I / believe Skyhorse’s other Appy mare is also expecting at the same time / as well. We can’t wait to see the new arrivals! Thanks everyone for reading this special little story & I hope to paint another spotted “Painted Pony” in the future.
