Hidden Woman

Where it can feel easier to sink into the background…keeping the inner self hidden…..from harm…from risks….from the world. / But ..really…wanting to bring that hidden woman out to the surface..not be afraid.. but just be.

Who can resist these eyes? This image is a reproduction of my original color pencil painting on drafting paper of ’”Blink” a beautiful cat owned by a fellow artist. “Blink” was placed Second in the Painting – Drawing Any Subject category at the 2008 Canning Show (First Place was awarded to my colour pencil painting “We Three Kings II – Lion” and Third to “Noble” my German Shepherd Dog in charcoal (yes I was very pleased with this Hat Trick!).

First Tree was Featured in Lifestyles Magazine as part of an article about the Artists of the West coffee table book I am also honored to announce my painting First Tree was a part of the Rialto Towers two week art exhibit in Melbourne, Australia in of July 2007 Acrylic and pastel on illustration paper. (1995) This is truly the first tree I ever painted, the need to paint and create was something brewing so strongly inside I had to do something about it. Yet my resources were very limited, I grabbed the only paint I had any access to, a can of my father’s black spray paint, I sprayed it into the lid of the can and used the only paintbrush I owned a cheep nylon brush from a water color kit and created. I then finished my work with the only two pastels I owned brown and black. / Necessity is the mother of invention, or maybe it’s that there is more than one way to skin a cat. (Sorry cat lovers) At any rate I grew up in a home with very few luxuries but I did have a passion to create, always, I had to feed the creativity. So this is a very special piece to me and I hope to you as well. Down through the dark trees, you came and saved me... Taking a break from the Capriccios while I decide if the series is complete. / I painted the house years earlier than I got the new ink. / In light that I consider myself fairly perceptive I did not see the similarity between the walls and my skin for months after.

This stencil was created in early 2008 inspired by fashion photography and damp cold London. Recently cut stencil with one layer from an older stencil of a zebra in pink on her dress, with hand drawn cobbled stones. The canvas itself is 3 times in length this is just a mere snap shot of the original piece. This piece is 1 of 3, utilising the same same stencil and composition of works I’ve posted on Red Bubble at the moment. The other is ‘snow and umbrella’ and ‘rain birds’

This piece was recently part of an exhibition. My cat, Muffin found a new grey cat in the neighbourhood and is very fond of it. They now hang out together quite a bit.
