  • Follow me in to the depths …

  • Old railway tanker, captured in the early morning.

  • The classic mythological beast of Greek lore, whom resides in the shadows. An allussion to the beast within the darkest recesses of us all that must be searched out, confronted, and slain. This guy actually just looks like he could use a break…. / Really it was part of my intention in this work to present the sort of monster that is melancholy; a darker beast of dimmer depths than it is often given credit for. / Original was done in watercolor and gouache media, on Arches cold-press 180lb. cotton rag.

  • The labyrinth was a maze created by the brilliant engineer Daedalus for King Minos to hold prisoners from ever escaping. The Minotaur resided deep within it’s depths, later to be slain by the hero Theseus. Of course Daedalus himself later became a captive to his own creation. Since even he could not find a way to escape from his own construction, he devised wings of wax and feathers and string, and, along with his son, Icharus, flew from the confines of the labyrinth. Icharus, not heeding his father’s warning, flew on too high toward the sun, causing the wax in his wings to melt; and he fell to the earth, and his death. / The labyrinth has been observed in many cultures to be a metaphor of the depths of the human psyche. From the ideas of old Greece to medieval cathedrals to the modern ideas of the psychoanylist Carl Jung, the labyrinthean depths of our own minds may very well be of the very highest construction and capability, as well as our greatest obstacle toward true enlightenment and freedom. / Original work was created using watercolor and gouache media on Arches cold-press 180lb. cotton rag.

  • UNTOUCHED…JUST A YELLOW FILTER ADDED. / This was takeen at Lake L’Achigan,St-Hippolyte,Quebec,Canada / I was comming back from breakfast in the village where I live when I saw this scene ,I stoped ,couldn’t beleive that I wasn’t able to see on the other side of the lake.Heavy fog and soft light gave me the opportunity to do this image,I just love it ,makes me think of an old painting. If you look carefully ,you will see the other side’s shadow. The reflection was great because there were no fog in front of me just on the other side.A very foggy sunrise it was. When I did this shot it thought about «Water world» and how our the planet is beautiful even with a little piece of land. / / / /

  • Inspired by the song Shadowfeet, by Brooke Fraser. / Thanks for viewing.

  • Oil painting of a leopard and her cub. Photographic reference by kind permission of famous wildlife photographers Michel and Christine Denis-Huot. This is my favourite painting depicting what is rumoured to be Halftail and Zawadi (Shadow) of Big Cat Diary fame but I cannot confirm whether this is true. Sadly, both Halftail and Shadow were killed and it still breaks my heart to think that these beautiful and precious animals are no longer with us. The painting is 20×30 inches and took me more than three months to complete. A substantial percentage of any sale of a wildlife painting will be donated to conservation and animal protection.

  • I have always wanted to have a go at ‘painting with light’. So blacked out the spare room and bought a bunch of tulips. The flowers are lit with a small torch waved over them for 81 seconds and the shutter set to ‘bulb’. Except for the 50% texture overlay (I thought the wardrobe doors were a bit boring) it is exactly as shot. /

  • / I wouldn’t like to feed the photographers for which this photo is the plain and simple truth. Another instalment in my Nostalgia series although a little different then usual in the set-up. It’s a lot simpler a composition then most of my work, but let me assure you, it was so much harder to get right! Shot with my relatively new Pentax K10D and a very old Pentax-A 1:1.7 50mm objective. You can read all about the technique used in this tutorial more work / the calendar / preview / “Forgotten” was sold as a Medium mounted print to an anonymous buyer. • I’m sort of feeling creative lately.. but not sure what to do about it. So as usual, I covered my stupid face in makeup and took stupid pictures. :D I’m not sure that I really actually like it.. the colors are nice, but it didn’t exactly come out the way I wanted. Somewhat inspired by the Ethiopian Omo people It’s Body paint, eye shadow and a bindi. More from this series: / © Jessica Walker 2009

  • Another image from this weeks late night stroll in back alleys off of Hosier Lane, in Melbourne’s CBD. The varying lighting and shadows helped to create mood which varied dependent upon the angle and direction of the shots. Quite eerie and daunting shooting this series alone, next time I must get someone to come along!!!!! This is a three shot HDR converted in Photomatix, shot with a Canon 400D – 17-85 lens. Want to see some other great shots of this place then visit Alistair Wilson’s link in the comments section…............. /
