A Wave

The Last months series of Events involving two other on-line communities and (Like the tile infers “The Plagiarism of Amanda Joy’s Poetry’ including may adventures here being inspired and spelling the inspiration out here on RedBubble. It’s really an amazing story of flowering creative courage. And three (3.!) while writing the poem the image of the painting “A Wave” just slid deeply into me deep and quiet as it just guided the poem’s writing the mysterious whole way. The Sea Venture was one of the first ships to arrive in Bermuda. It was thrown accidentally off course by a hurricane and landed on the reefs intact. Its original course was with a fleet from England headed towards / Jamestown, Virginia to aid in the colonization. From being shipwrecked, the crew and passengers of the Sea Venture settled in Bermuda and benefitted from its tropical paradise and set up a small colony. This painting is a Mixed Media piece, combining original digital photography taken in Bermuda by SBC, painting, and drawing. It is intended to capture the natural and surreal beauty of Bermuda. It won an Honorable Mention Award in the Rowayton Art Show in 2006 and First Place in the Darien Art Show in 2007. Thank you for your interest, comments and purchases!

Inspired by Joseph Turner. Lindisfarne Priory and Castle, In Northumberland, (near where I live), as a storm rolls in, from the ever-moody, North Sea! Watercolour on 90lb paper 12”x 8” I loved painting this, and will do a much larger one, in the future.

The artist uses painting techniques to create the digital painting directly on the computer. / I create the painting, directly on my PC, by using a Wacom tablet, a stylus pen and ArtRage painting software. The Wacom tablet can be compared to a canvas or watercolor paper surface. The stylus pen is my paintbrush.

/ This painting, is inspired by Turner’s painting of a slave ship in the midst of a typhoon, which he called a “Typhon”...Turner captured the horror of the event and terrifying grandeur of nature through hot, churning color and light that merge sea and sky. The critic John Ruskin, the first owner of Slave Ship, wrote, “If I were reduced to rest Turner’s immortality upon any single work, I should choose this.” / I chose to create an abstract work evoking the turmoil of the storm, not so much stressing the wind and the waves, but instead ferocity and power portrayed by the intense shock of deep red amid the more serene blues... “Aloft all hands, strike the top-masts and belay; / Yon angry setting sun and fierce-edged clouds / Declare the Typhon’s coming. / Before it sweeps your decks, throw overboard / The dead and dying – ne’er heed their chains / Hope, Hope, fallacious Hope! / Where is thy market now?”..J.M.W. small format acrylic and ink painting, about A3 size on draw&wash paper / ... trying to ‘map’ my new place for myself … I try to use limited palette and stronger contrasts … and create somehow the feel of large open spaces …. which cannot actually fit into one pictorial frame … and at the same time they do not fit into one frame of mind for me ….. therefore the multitude of ‘frames’ suggested here ….
