It was so much fun to paint this one. The inspiration for the stripes on the towels came from the wierdest idea. I was just staring one day at a set of brightly coloured corkboard pins at my eye level on the cupboard and the idea was born! Inspiration comes from all over the place!

Sales of this Design? – 3 sales so far :) / ‘Inspirational Series’ card by Karin Taylor Nancy, Patsy, Ellen and Red Dog is a mixed media production. I used ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal on canvas textured paper. The original painting was just auctioned for charity recently. This work was also inspired by the _‘Legend of Red Dog aka The Pilbara Wanderer’, as is ‘Where is Red Dog’. Red Dog was an adventurous dog who seemed to belong to an entire community. / When his soulmate John died, Red Dog searched for him for the rest of his days, that’s loyalty for you! This painting depicts the time Red Dog’s search for John took him all the way from the dusty outback to Cottesloe Beach, with the girls from his hometown hot on his tail…... If you look closely you can see the tips of Red Dog’s ears way out past the breakers!

This is the actual shape of the canvas This is where the entire shape of the canvas itself becomes an integral part of the overall theme. The canvas is tapered to give the illusion that the top of the canvas is leaning back and the bottom is protruding forward towards the viewer. / The blue represents both the waves of the ocean and the point where the horizon line of the ocean and sky meet. / The seagull itself is reduced down to its barest essential shape and color. With one wing up and one wing down representing the seagull’s constant wing movement as it seems to hover above the seascape. In this painting I have endeavored to reduce the landscape down to its absolute minimum, focusing purely on the line of salt-bush on the horizon, with one solitary bird hovering in the air, to give the impression of the raw empty heat of a mid day summer where nothing stirs until l the cool of the evening. . .
