  • For the past week or so I have been in a real deep funk. Won’t go as far as saying depressed but overwhelmed by the feeling of unhappiness. I sketched this out last night about midnight and felt that it was worth throwing up here. I wanted to capture how I’ve been feeling and this happened to pop out. No preconceived idea of what I was aiming for and was at the will of my subconscious. As you see in the image, I am gripping onto one of the only things that make me happy, and no matter how hard I squeeze, it still feels like it is slipping away. What IT is, is not important, because it can be anything that brings you any kind of joy. And as you see, without that happiness and that “constant”, I am nothing. Along with my happiness I myself begin to slip away into the darkness, hoping to meet my happiness at the bottom.

  • A tops’l schooner has been wrecked ashore in shallow water, in the North East coal harbour of Cullercoats, circa1880’s. • The Kamikaze Kitty. Hot on the trail of what? A dust bunny? a mouse? Who knows, but this much we can tell he is focused and intent on conquering. Able to leap a carpet in a single bound he is set airborne, into a dreamlike sky of vivid blue, and flashing yellow stars. Is that a twinkle in his eye? He must be close to conquest! This piece is done an 140lb smooth bristol with color pencils and metallic markers. • My first pastel self portrait on black paper. I have always wanted to attempt a portrait but have had no training and not knowing where to start it seemed a bit overwhelming, however after seeing some of the beautiful portrait paintings on Redbubble I thought I would give it a go. I chose myself just incase I did not do the subject justice and was satisified with my first attempt…. Do not be afraid step right in / You never know what lies within…. / Free your chains let go of your fears / it does not always end in tears!

  • This piece is all about holding ourselves back. Often we confine ourselves in mental cages, not letting our true thoughts out or expressing what we want. The right side is plain, symbolising this confinement and lack of being unique, and gradually as she becomes more sure of herself her life is being filled with colour and originality. So basically don’t hold yourself back, be who you want to be. This is a real mixed media… acrylics, watercolours, watercolour pencils (without water), pastels, inks and pens! I really enjoyed doing this piece, despite the fact it was dragged out so long.
