I AM NOT AN ARTIST I AM JUST A MAN WHO PAINTS.L.S.LOWRY).... I have been painting as an amateur artist on and off for many years.I have over the years developed a very unusual use of colour and content, which I now know from experience appeal to many people, Including individual collectors and dealers. Newcastle upon Tyne England has been a hotbed of heavy Industry since the beginning of the industrial revolution, most of which has now gone forever. A lot of my paintings are recollections of youthful images of the period, late 1940s and 1950s. They are inspired by local naïve and primitive pitmen artists I am also an admirer of L.S.LOWRY, and the great American artist EDWARD HOPPER .AND GRANMA MOSES among others. I am inspired by tales of women who lead the way. / This is my homage to the ideal of Joan of Arc. Whether many of her acts were real / or have been exaggerated, / does not matter. / What matters is how she inspires us to do / and endure more than we think / we can. Women are the power of the future / who can look to the past / for inspiration. This would be a good card for a confirmation / or to inspire a young person. / I feel sure there are more than 50 uses for this design. Much of this work is created with / Metallic Paint Pens, / Joan’s details are drawn in / metallic gel pens on 110gsm acid free drawing paper – A4. / It is one of the first designs where I have combined the two very different media. /
At uni we were challenged to create multiple experimental versions of the one picture. The teacher said that whilst it was an exercise it would be better if we chose a pic that inspired us as we would be doing it repetitively. / The original that this was a pair of gates at a resort on a Pacific Island from a shiny travel magazine. Starting top left – coloured Pencil on paste up board / top right – pastels on CS6 Frisk textured board / centre – stippled with Indian Ink on matt board / Bottom left – Aquarelle w-clrpencils/watercolour paper / Bottom right – metallic brush pens on canvas board This was the first piece of work I put up in my home for anyone who visited to see. Now it is straight ahead of them when they enter the front door. I am proud for people to see this work. When I first did them they were hidden in a folio that hardly anyone saw. Now I have more of my works on the walls and my sketchbooks are out of the filing cabinet and some of the pics are on RB.
