Yes, before you say it … strange! :-) As of July 2009, this painting has had 5,048 viewings and has been favourited 79 times and had 194 comments, so I guess someone out there likes it. Many thanks for your enthusiasm. To be candid though, I’ll never cease to be amazed at its reception, as I didn’t spend too much time on it and even kept it out of my portfolio for ages as I thought it was sub-standard. The North Sea at Whitby. The Herring boats at misty dawn, / To get the details of the boats correct, I’ve used a Victorian photo as the subject. I liked the very hard pen ink lines of the foreground, contrasting with the soft, misty, wet-in-wet background. 90 lb watercolour, medium rough paper. / 12”x8”

This painting is a mixed media work that was “rescued”. I had started the original oil painting several years earlier but it had been set aside and forgotten about. Once I pulled it out again, I had no idea what my original vision for the piece was. After looking at it for awhile, I finished it off with the intricate ink work that surrounds the seashell. I also turned the shell into a stone fossil, which represents what happened to the idea I originally had for this painting – it turned to stone! But I think the end result was worth it.

This years Holiday painting is finally finished. The model is my new kitten,”Mia”, who is from a local animal Shelter. / Her favorite pass times are, taking a nap on my lap and fetching paper airplanes. / Mediums I used are, Pen & Ink, Ink and Watercolor pencil washes, painted on Fabriano Artistico Bright White 140lb Hot press watercolor paper. / I am an Artist located in NW Oregon.

Just Do It ...... My motto, these days. I’m fearless when it comes to trying “art” things but very nervous about sharing them. RedBubble is a wonderful Community to be a part of, even for people like me who have a long way to go in learning. Here’s a piece of writing to accompany this image. That pen is very old, I think. I’m pretty sure it’s older than I am. And the background is an acrylics-on-canvas I painted about 14 years ago. I haven’t painted (except on the computer) since. As is. / /

Yes, with Corel Painter Essentials 2. / I didn’t realize that the brushes would act like real brushes…up until now I’ve been slapping paint on and pushing it around, assuming there’d be no subtle movements allowed. But there are. Wow. This image is just some play…but I’m thrilled with how much fun it was too make and how responsive the brushes are to work with. Thank you, Zooreka!! /
