There has been one sale of this image. In November 2008 this image was featured in the group, Buyers R Us. In February 2009, this image placed third in the U.S. Parks Wildlife Shots challenge hosted by the AMERICA’s National Parks and WILDLIFE Habitat group. A thousand Yellowstone wonders are calling, ‘Look up and down and round about you! John Muir – 1898 The temperatures were in the single digits on this cold, snowy January morning at West Thumb Geyser Basin, which is one of the smallest geyser basins in Yellowstone. A incredibly scenic area along the shore of Yellowstone Lake, West Thumb only has a small amount of geyser activity. However, the basin more than makes up for it with its diversity. Despite its small size, it has paint/mud pots, hot springs, pools, lake shore geysers, and fumaroles. Fumaroles are small openings that release steam and other gasses. You can see in the foreground the muddy, soupy waters inundating the paint pots. The white area beyond the tree line in the right hand side of the photograph is Yellowstone Lake. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. mixed media on wood. 24” x 36” i keep a grey bin full of photo copies, pictures cut out from magazines, polaroids, various papers, etc. as i work, i dig through it looking for elements that will fit in, compliment, or otherwise enhance the outcome of the painting… the leaves fall to the hard soil as winter sets in / there is an echo / hunger and longing drowns / and drowns / the night grows longer / a restless mind does not sleep / a thin blue-grey welcomes the dawn / the weary returns to the cave

We added this conservatory to our home four years ago and what a gift it has been! Rain or shine, we can so fully appreciate the beauty God has given us in the surrounding cathedral of towering fir trees, and, in the warmer months, the radiant colors of the garden flowers. After a very long winter (so far) I needed something that sang Spring time is just around the corner! After a lot of fuss, and several hours, in Photoshop and Painter X this is the final result. Every pixel of this piece was re-painted (digitally) by hand. All of the apple blossoms and leaves were created from scratch. As a final touch I added some texture to the piece to give it that last little edge I was looking for. Featured in The Birds – Feb. 15, 2009 / I can almost feel it. Spring is JUST around the corner. It’s such an exciting time in Canada after a long and cold winter. The lilac trees bloom putting forth the sweetest scent and the hummingbirds return to our property after a long migration. Yes, Spring will be here before we know it. I can’t wait! I spent countless HOURS last summer, sitting in a lawn chair, ever so patiently waiting to try & capture one of these little darlings in flight. They are only 7-9 cm long. While hovering their wings beat 55x/s, 61x/s when moving backwards, and at least 75x/s when moving forward! / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / Processing info: / This image started out with 3 photograph layers (the lilac background image, a female ruby-throated hummingbird, and the tail from a different photo of the same bird). I took all of the original images with my Canon DSLR. After removing the background around the original bird photos I merged all of the layers in PhotoShop. I digitally painted/blended the entire image in Corel Painter X using the Impasto Depth Smear brush at 30% opacity. I cloned out a distracting branch in the upper left corner and performed blend # 2 work on the main lilac blooms, hummingbird, and the largest leaves using grainy blender 10 brush at 38% opacity. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / Bird Gallery / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST

Watercolor and pencil on illustration board, / 10×8 / 2009 Model: Adhara Batul One of the Greek myths I adore the most, for its incredible strength, poetry and significance, is the myth of Persephone. In Greek mythology, Persephone was the goddess of the underworld and of the Spring growth. Daughter of Demeter, goddess of the harvest, she was abducted by Hades and taken to the land of the dead. By a determination of the Fates, she was forced to stay for two seasons each year after eating pomegranates seeds, thus becoming consort of Hades and queen of the underworld. This time I opted by depicting her sorrow and solitude after having the seeds, although there’s quite an air of resignation with her destiny.
