  • This was a piece that came to be while is working on a design with the quote, “while i breathe, i hope”. In someways this should be the title of the piece. The piece represents two lovers in a world that is soon to be no more. To signify their love they take to the mountains where they get married in front of their nuclear fate. In someways i think this piece is somewhat unfinshed, possibly more of the background could be complete, but when i got to this stage i didn’t want to touch it. Your eyes are so captivated by the couple that the background serves its purpose. Nothing to distract from the beauty between these two human beings.

  • ”... I cannot tell if the day is ending, or the world, or if / the secret of secrets is inside me again…” ~ an excerpt from “A Land Not Mine, Still” by Russian poet Anna Akhmatova, 1964 A collage inspired by a selection of artworks from one of my favourite Pre-Raphaelite period artists, John William Waterhouse. Wikipedia’s definition: / The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood (also known as the Pre-Raphaelites) was a group of English painters, poets, and critics, founded in 1848 by William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The three founders were soon joined by William Michael Rossetti, James Collinson, Frederic George Stephens and Thomas Woolner to form a seven member “brotherhood”. The group’s intention was to reform art by rejecting what they considered to be the mechanistic approach first adopted by the Mannerist artists who succeeded Raphael and Michelangelo. They believed that the Classical poses and elegant compositions of Raphael in particular had been a corrupting influence on the academic teaching of art. Hence the name “Pre-Raphaelite”. In particular, they objected to the influence of Sir Joshua Reynolds, the founder of the English Royal Academy of Arts. They called him “Sir Sloshua”, believing that his broad technique was a sloppy and formulaic form of academic Mannerism. In contrast, they wanted to return to the abundant detail, intense colours, and complex compositions of Quattrocento Italian and Flemish art.

I took this image so I could counter my fear and create, well try to create, something sexy….. :)

  • This painting & collage was inspired by Inspire Me Thursday. This website gives a challenge each week for artists, and this particular challenge was to download an image of a painting (“Mademoiselle Caroline Riviere” and use it in a piece of art. I decided to collage the image over one of my signature backgrounds. I updated her clothing a little, and gave her a little extra lippy. I’m quite happy with how this has turned out, as I haven’t done much collage before. This painting is available for purchase at my website and my etsy store
