The California Building and Bell Tower in historic Balboa Park, San Diego, California, by RD Riccoboni. Original is 16×21 inches acrylic on canvas. painted in the impressionst style, viewed from the sculpture garden. One of the most photographed buildings in California, the building houses The Museum of Man. A must see when in San Diego. / More about this artist Designed by Architect Bertram Goodhue and built in 1913-14, for the Panama Exposition, the California Building cost the State of California a staggering $250,000 at the time. Many of the California Building’s details arose from Goodhue’s firsthand study of Spanish-Colonial architecture during his travels in Mexico in 1899. Built for the State of California as its contribution to the 1915 Panama-California Exposition in San Diego it housed exhibits to illustrate The Story of Man through the Ages, with emphasis on the Indian populations of North and South America. See more of the artist’s San Diego work like this The primary colors in Riccoboni’s palette are derived from the colors in the original rainbow flag which represent sexuality, healing, sun, nature, art, harmony and spirit. As a painter I am a visual storyteller. A message comes with the art – perhaps it is playful, calming, erotic, disturbing, political, or even sacred. I like to flirt with the issues and experiences we face in everyday life, the things we do and the places we go that define our lives. Whether positive, humorous, or thought provoking, my work portrays events people relate to while creating a sense of place for the viewer – RD. Riccoboni RD. (Randy) Riccoboni is an innovative American-born painter (California, 1960), influenced by his early years living in the suburbs of New York City. A self-taught artist, he credits encouragement by family and teachers for his drive and inspiration. We can’t take any credit for our talents. It’s how we use them that counts - / Madeleine L’Engle
I was going for a cave painting, new-age, kinda look here, both photos taken in Dane Park, Margate.
Small rural town in Texas, I drove through their small downtown area to look at the old buildings and saw a church that had some art painted on the side of a shed in the nearby parking lot. Typical in small towns I think to see their public opinions on religion and politics with a very ‘in your face’ display, which was very eyecatching from the street
This series was taken in the underground carpark of the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. It was a thrill! We planned carefully, and leapt out of the car at the same time. My wonderful model Melissa delightfully took on the persona of the femme fatale painting thief, cool as a cucumber, sauntering along to the getaway vehicle. Our hearts were beating fast, but we were not approached by security…. even when we zoomed out of the carpark the wrong way through the exit in a flurry of excitment (tyres screeching!) of doing something sidling on the edge of naughtiness ;). Aaah.. the photography adventure.. what a way to play with the world :)
