This piece was inspired by lichtenstein, darth vader, and of course samurai!
subject: This drawing was inspired by a dream I had a few nights ago, in which I was walking through a park at night and came across a naked man sleeping under a maple tree. There was more to the dream than I’ve drawn, but the key symbols and their meanings according to dreammoods.com are as follows. NIGHT: To have a dream that takes place at night, represents some major setbacks and obstacles in achieving your goals. There are some issues in your life that you are facing that are not too clear. You should put the issues aside so you can clear your head before coming back to it. PARK: To dream that you are at a park, represents a temporary escape from reality. It indicates renewal, meditation, and spirituality. It is also an indication of a readjustment period after a serious personal conflict or an ending of a passionate affair. MAPLE TREE: Balance, promise, practicality. NAKED MAN: If seeing a naked person in your dream disgusts you, it might signify anxiety about discovering the naked truth about that person or situation. It may also foretell of an illicit love affairs, loss of prestige and scandalous activities. On the other hand, if you do not have any problem with another’s nudity, then it implies that you see through people and accept them for who and what they are. SLEEP: To see others sleeping, is often a reflection of yourself and your own unconscious mind. It is indicative of how you may not be alert or informed about a particular situation. It may also beckon renewal and new beginnings. This painting was actually inspired by Kate Lightfoot’s Early Bird – I thought the bird was tied to the twig, so I thought I’d do my own version of the scene. For me, this illustrates a possessive relationship between two people. This watercolour is framed in a matching golden and black frame with a wide matt board a long painting. Thanks to Scatti evolutivi for permission to use her photo. This is for Malawi see www.shirleycharlton.com The Malawi woman are beautiful mothers they have a kindness and have a gift at bringing up children. Babies are so happy on their backs as they go about their work either digging thier gardens or fetching water, or firewood. I enjoyed painting this from Scatti’s photo and used artistic licence to make the child look happy as in the photo he looked a little sad. They maybe poor but they take the trouble with the scarf and headdress. Of course a photo is more exact but I hope I have captured the caring Malawian Mother, and a Mothers Love as Jesus loves us. Painted on Arches watercolour paper.

There was a rush of blue time that lingered against the color of seemingly empty moments. A gust of wind unfurled the flag of your being into movement. Waves of swirling puddles against light. Movement without form. Yet full and heavy and melting and glowing. The ebb and flow of internal charges. The slow gliding of stars with laundry and angels with highways and measurement with eternity’s hand-held presence. And a face popped into the blowing casual seep of wounds healing and brick walls becoming liquid. I didn’t know the face, though it was familiar. I felt as if I had always know it. Forever behind the edifice of the known. Always behind the veil of awareness. The face of angels finally being met. Though I had always used their helping hands. I shook my hands and they were gone. But never gone. Meeting Angels on Wind is 22”x28” acrylic, gesso and India ink on poster paper
